BE FEARFUL, BUT DON'T WORRY!
14 Moreover, from the day that I was appointed to be their governor in the land of Judah, from the twentieth year to the thirty-second year of King Artaxerxes, for twelve years, neither I nor my kinsmen have eaten the governor’s food allowance. 15 But the former governors who were before me laid burdens on the people and took from them bread and wine besides forty shekels of silver; even their servants domineered the people. But I did not do so because of the fear of God.
Although Nehemiah and his men were entitled to the food allowance, they never took advantage of the people! In fact, he fed the people! Why? All because of Nehemiah's fear of You!
When I walk in fear of You, I don't have to worry about right or wrong...or if there's a rule or law against certain things. I need to set my standard above the law-to what You are asking me to do. I need not be concerned with what is acceptable to man, but rather-what is acceptable for me...as a result of my love and reverent fear of You!
Heavenly Father, may I never forget that You are my "law." May I never be content with the laws of man, but rather what You are asking me to do! May I always hold myself to the standard that You have set, and continue to set! Lord, in Your name, may I be the disciple, husband, father, and friend-You have called me to be! So that Your name will be glorified! In Your name-Amen!
