So here's Nehemiah... He just heard some very bad news. And it causes him to weep, to pray, to fast. It troubles him so much that he is moved to do something about it. My Nehemiah Question is this: Do the things that break God's heart, break my heart? Am I moved by what moves God? When I hear bad news, does it move me emotionally to the point hat I must do something about it?
I gotta say, right now, I am lacking. Someone recently told me about the death of a young lady, and she weeped for her salvation and many who are on the same path. That kind of a heart-- one that is in tune to the frequency of God's heart-- that is what I want. I believe daily, as I spend more time with my Father, I learn what moves Him, what grieves Him, what he despises as well as what He loves. I become more like my Father the more time I spend with Him.
Nehemiah's prayer starts off with worship (the great and awesome God) then confession and repentance (I and my ancestors have sinned against you) followed with placing his plans in God's hands (make me successful today so that I get what I want from the king.
God, remove my heart of stone-- get rid of my uncompassionate heart-- and give me a heart of flesh. I heart that is filled with God's will, not self-will. A heart that hurts for the things that hurt You. And fill me with Your spirit. Thank you, Father.
