Eternal Fire - For The Disciples...?
Notice that this section starts off by making it known that "The disciples" came to Yeshua...
And then we read in verse 18 the rabbinic formula of "If/Then" as it relates to entering the kingdom or being 'thrown into the eternal fire".
This is not a verse intended to scare people away from "hell" or "eternal fires" - remember, this is about who is the greatest in the kingdom...This entire passage is a story to and for the disciples.
