Be Free. Free Others.
Scripture
Peter's words pierced their hearts, and they said to him and to the other apostles, "Brothers, what should we do?"
Peter replied, "Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
This promise is to you, and to your children, and even to the Gentiles—all who have been called by the Lord our God."
Observation
A large crowd had gathered in response to the commotion in the upper room. Some were amazed. Others criticized them for being drunk. Peter stepped forward to clearly explain it as a fulfillment of prophecy, as a proof that Jesus was Lord and Messiah.
Peter’s words pierced their hearts. “What should we do?” they asked. “Repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized. Then you will receive the Holy Spirit.” Be free.
Application
The phrase “even to the Gentiles” is translated in the King James Version as “to all that are afar off”. That would be me. This amazing promise is available for me.
I saw evidence of the Holy Spirit in others and was pierced in my heart. I too asked “what should I do?”. When I turned from my sin, to God and was baptized, my sins were forgiven. Then I received the Holy Spirit, who transforms me and gives me His power to live an abundant life, sin free.
Does my life evidence the transforming power of the Holy Spirit? Are people so struck by His presence or my explanation that they ask “what should I do?”
Prayer
Lord, be so prominent in my life that others will see and be drawn to You. Draw them to ask what they should do to also be set free.
