wait for it...

Often I doubt God and his faithfulness. My own lack of faithfulness causes me to question him and not trust him in my heart. I think the order of action in this verse is interesting and encouraging:
1. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world
2. Rather, be transformed by the renewing of your mind
3. THEN you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Though I fail at trusting God, there is hope for me! As I live humbly (not proudly, as the world lives), God will renew my mind. Paths of thought that are well-worn in my mind (I need to make it on my own, I need to rely on myself first) will begin to be forsaken for new life-giving wisdom. As my mind is renewed, I gradually come to know God's will.

This brief reflection has revealed to me the importance of the mind. We cry "give us a pure heart," but forget to ask for a new mind as well.

So God, I guess this is me asking, once more, for a new mind. Change the way I think.
