One Thing
One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in his temple.
What if we focused more on finding the correct question then searching for the answer? David request to be in Gods presence. He doesn't try to obtain anything from God. He doesn't put any expectation on God. He only wants to be with God. I have a lot of one thing prayers every day. "Lord I ask for a close parking space." "Oh Lord help me with my job." "Lord help me with my family." "Bless my bride." "Bless me." I am not saying these prayers are wrong at all, it just seems to me that a lot of my prayers have a lot of me in them. If we are honest with ourselves I think a lot of us have the 'One Thing' as ourselves.
Let's make our 'One Thing' simply God's presence. Notice David does all the active steps. To seek after God, looking for Him in all aspects of life. To dwell in His house, find time to be in God's company on His time with His purpose. Asking only of God and not any other.
Lord may I put myself in the correct place. Below you. Lord I just want tone with you today. Follow your leading. Live for your cause. I love you.
