Storm Chasers-
Jonah 1:12 (message version) says: 12 Jonah said, "Throw me overboard, into the sea. Then the storm will stop. It's all my fault. I'm the cause of the storm. Get rid of me and you'll get rid of the storm."
To give you some history, let me explain what's happening. Jonah is running away from an assignment that God told him to do. Jonah didn't want to do it so he decided that he was going to run away from God! Have you ever tried that before? I'm certain you have; anyway he gets on this ship in an attempt to escape God and God causes a huge storm to overtake the boat. The other men on board got afraid and asked Jonah what he had done to cause this. Jonah told them the truth. He said, ""Throw me overboard, into the sea. Then the storm will stop. It's all my fault. I'm the cause of the storm. And I knew I had to write about that thang! Look at your neighbor and ask them, "Are you a storm chaser!?!?!"
Okay let me explain my title; Storm Chasers are people who go out after tornadoes and other natural disasters in an attempt to learn more about them. They follow tornadoes and other storms with Doppler radar and other fancy-smancy tools to collect data on them with hopes to understand and predict them better.
Some of you reading this message are storm chasers too! You go after "storms" in your life all the time. You date the wrong kind of men. You chase the wrong kind of women. You go to that store, knowing you're going to buy something wasting your money. You go to that church knowing they're going to beg and not even give you a good word! YOU'RE A STORM CHASER!!!!!
I wrote a Life-giving word this week for my ministry called "I'm stuck in a Rut and it sucks!" (you can buy here on the website on Oct. 24th Amen God bless U! {my commercial}) One of the reasons I spoke about why you're in a rut is because sometimes you put yourself there! You deserve the rut you're in and it's all your fault! Storm Chasers, ye who go after bad things in your life, find yourselves in ruts and you can't get out. You're in the heart of the storm because YOU chased it!
Stop going after things in your life that mean you no good! You can't keep courting bad news, bad things and bad people! You don't want people in your business but you posting all of your business all over Facebook! You're chasing a storm! You keep dating the wrong kind of people; you storm chaser you! You keep on going out every single day, spending your money, chasing that poverty storm! You keep procrastinating on your dreams and your goals, chasing that storm of destroying your destiny!
You wonder why bad things seem to follow you wherever you go? You feel like you're cursed sometimes? YOU MIGHT BE A STORM CHASER!
"Well Pastor BCam, How do I know if I'm a storm Chaser?"
I'm so glad you asked me that question! God bless yah ministry! LOL
You know you're a storm chaser if (1) every friend around you has the same problems. Yes birds of a feather flock together but you've chased those kinds of people and now they're raining on your parade!
You could be a storm chaser if (2)every person you date does the same exact horrible things to you. If they all cheat; if they all hurt you, then it's not them, it's you! That's why when they leave you, it's like a tornado just hit your house!
You're a storm chaser if (3) you have the same issues over and over again. You just can't stop sleeping around. Maybe because all your past sex partners are on the speed dial on your phone! Maybe it's because you got hot and bothered and storm chased them down on facebook! PREACH CAMPBELL!!!!
You just may be a storm chaser if you keep dealing with the same mental issues you've been dealing with for over 5 years! Stop chasing those negative thoughts in your head and chase them out yo' head!
Okay, you got it now. You know by now if you're a storm chaser.
"How do I stop chasing storms? I didn't even know I was one until I read your WEEKLY WORD."
Amen God bless you! LOL You dun read the word and got conviction! That's the first step. You've got to feel a conviction about what you're doing! You're only hurting yourself!
You've only got one life to live, and if you live it chasing storms, you'll always find yourself under dark clouds.
To stop chasing storms you also must realize your weaknesses and use your strengths to conquer them. You should have had enough by now of your weaknesses causing your life to slow down. You call it rain, but when you're chasing these kinds of storms, the clouds aren't raining on you; (Your clouds representing your problems) they're spitting on you! And you should be tired of getting spat on by life's issues!
The last and final thing you must do to stop being a storm chaser is very simple. I need not add anything else to this word, because if you do this, your storm chasing days will be over! You can hang up your galoshes, and put down your rain coat!
This don't mean that you'll never experience a storm again, but after I give you this last piece of advice, the only storms you'll go through will be God-ordained! And those kinds of storms have a short life span most of the time and Christ is right there with you riding through the storm! He's your Hero as Kirk put it in today's meditation song.
The final thing to do to stop being a storm chaser (causing your own problems) is to become a God chaser!
You've got to take the advice of Matthew in Matthew 6:33 to "Seek ye first the kingdom..." Stop seeking man and seek God!
You've got to do what it says in Deuteronomy 4:29 and seek with your heart and your soul!
The one scripture I love about seeking him is where the Bible tells us in Luke 11:9 that if we seek him, we shall find him. If we knock, the door shall be opened unto us.
Go after God,or have him go after you!
Stop your storm chasing and let the "weather man upstairs" control the forecast! I see a brighter day ahead already! : )
