Walking Ahead

Jesus is "walking ahead of them" on the road to Jerusalem and explains to them all that is going to happen. In this case here, we don't even get a response to what He told them. They just didn't understand what was going to happen.

I find it a little bit funny that not only is Jesus literally walking ahead of them, He is also miles ahead in planning and preparation for the future - His and the disciples.

Why is it then that when it comes to our future, we typically find ourselves not even walking, but running ahead of God and then wondering what we're supposed to do next or where we're supposed to go now? We say we're followers of Christ, but the truth is we're not really - we're out for a walk and hope that Jesus is somewhere nearby in case our plans don't turn out the way we'd like.

Here's a challenge for today. Before you go anywhere, do anything, say anything. Have a private mental conversation and ask, "God, what do you want me to do now?" You can start with, "I know I'm supposed to [fill in the blank]" (like be at work, eat lunch, go to an appointment, etc). But before you do it, make sure you're following God and ask Him (silently or outloud), "What do you want me to do now?" or "Is this what you want me to do now?" Then listen for the answer and respond in obedience. You might be surprised what kind of day you have.
