All right, I snicker every time I read this section. It is just like God to create a visual expression of wisdom in something as insignificant as an ant. He always takes the lowest and least among us to make the most important points. In these verses, Solomon addresses the topic of procrastination. He wonderfully paints the picture of how deadly it can be. He says, "A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest - and poverty will come on you like a bandit and scarcity like an armed man." Solomon makes it clear that our procrastination is not really a passive thing. There is always a negative price to pay. We will be robbed of that which He desire to give us through our efforts. Solomon says to you and me, "Learn from the ant." The ant does what it needs to do day by day and ends up with provisions for all times.
The same is true with our spiritual lives. God has rich provisions for us every day of our lives. But spiritual procrastination can rob us of those benefits. We need to be in His Word and in prayer with Him on a daily basis so we might benefit from His provision. If we procrastinate, this world will rob us of the spiritual blessings that should be ours. We know what we ought to do! As the famous Nike logo states it, "Just do it!"
Like the ant, we know what we ought to do to get our daily physical and spiritual provision. Starting today, let's do it!
Peace!
