Humans are slaves to sin

Steps to Freedom:

1. Believing and living by the word of God

You can never gain faith through human means

First you must be born again:

- belief in Christ

- rebirth: born of water AND spirit ("repentance" AND "regeneration")

- this is a radical change by which a person undergoes a compete transformation

2. Realizing and knowing the word will set you free

"Living by the word":

- to abide in the word requires obedience

The truth sets us free from the bondage of sin:

- the Holy Spirit enables us to "put to death" the sinful nature

- there is no strength in our human nature to overcome problems, temptations, trials, etc.

- give up your own self-effort to overcome your sinful nature, God will not let you down

The secret of effective Christian living knows the power of the Spirit through the Word.
