Grace

this chapter is a great parallel for the love and grace of God. If we take David to be God, and Jonathan to be Christ, then we see that God loves us despite our sin (handicap) because of out link to His son Jesus, (Jonathan). He brings us to his table (psalm 23) and supplies all our needs. He no longer sees us as enemies, but as his own children.

He even goes so far as to reclaim lost property and make us lords! People looking on may not understand this, but the unmerited favour David shows this son of Saul is somewhat similar to the love of God for us, accepting us as His children, and nothing we can do can remove the love (Romans 8:32) because the promise is made to Jesus (Jonathan) and the price has been paid once and for all.

All we have to do is to show up, receive the favour and be grateful.

Another observation is that as long as Mephibosheth was at the table his handicap was not seen. The table covered the fault, and he was whole. Stay in the presence of God and be seen the way God sees you.

Thank God for grace.
