Intimidated, or Trusting?

Scripture

In spite of this, you didn’t trust the Lord your God.

Observation

Moses and the people of Israel are on the verge of entering the promised land. They had been at this place forty years ago, eleven months after leaving Egypt. Against all odds, humanly speaking, the hand of God miraculously delivered them from Egypt and from the Egyptian armies that came after them. God miraculously provided for them during that eleven months in the desert. He went ahead of them in a column of fire at night and in a column of smoke during the day to show them which route to take.

In spite of this, they didn’t trust the Lord their God.

They took their eyes off the column of smoke and fire. They sent spies to scout the land, to determine the route to take. And, while the land was amazing, the inhabitants were giants, very intimidating! Overcome by fear, God’s people rebelled against Him, refusing to go where the Lord was leading, to take what He had promised. And so, they spent forty years wandering the desert.

Application

I have seen God’s hand both deliver through loss and serious illness, and provide when jobs were gone. God has blessed as we have followed when He has led us out of our comfort zone.

Jesus promised to be with us, with me, to the end of the age, never to leave or forsake us. He has proven himself true to His Word. The evidence is overwhelming when I take time to recount it.

Whether standing on the threshold of great promise, or facing potential “giants” looming and threatening, do I trust the Lord my God?

Prayer

Lord, I do trust. You are always with me, ever faithful. May Your hand continue to be my guide, my source and my boldness. Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!
