blood

Lev. Says there is life in blood. Without blood, there is no life. It is why Jesus said in John that unless you drink my blood you have no part of me. Why? He goes on to say, they are Spirit and they are LIFE! (I do believe he is talking about consuming his word. Jn 1:14, the word became flesh...) When our blood stops flowing we stop living.
Blood also served as a visual cleansing that a price has been paid. In their worship they made sacrifices. The priest would take that blood and sprinkle it on the people, the altar, themselves, the book of the law, the items used inside the temple, and it was a visual declaration the a price has been paid. Sacrifices were messy, ugly, hard, and costly. It cost them their best! It was a powerful reminder of the price of our sins. Can you imagine the scene after all those bloody sacrifices? There was no concrete drains, no power washer, just pools of blood. They looked around and saw everything marked by blood. Sin was costly and a price had been paid for it. That is why they worshiped. That is why Jesus came.
