Blame Shifting or Prevailing
Scripture
The Lord was angry with me because of you, so he wouldn’t listen to me. He said, “That’s enough out of you! Don’t talk to me anymore about this.”
Observation
Moses told the people he pleaded with the Lord: “Please let me go over and see the beautiful land on the other side of the Jordan River.” The Lord had told him some time ago that he would not enter the land because of his disobedience. Now Moses blamed the people, telling them the Lord was angry with him because of them.
But Moses had disqualified himself. He let his anger with his people get the better of him, leading to his disobedience, acting outside of God’s promises to him.
It’s not fair that Moses lost out because the job he had was a difficult one, leading a rebellious people. Life often isn’t fair, but God had promised to be his strength through it all.
Application
I can’t come close to controlling the circumstances of life or the actions of other people. When I let circumstances or people get the better of me, I can make bad decisions. I can point the finger of blame on others, as Moses did, but that doesn’t change the face I made the bad choices.
God has given his Holy Spirit to be with me every moment of every day. Even in face of overwhelming opposition or situations, I can choose to trust God and His promises, and rely on His power in me to prevail.
Prayer
Lord, thank you that You are always with me, ever faithful. May I learn to walk in your power moment by moment, such that your peace prevails in me no matter what circumstances or people enter my day.
