Restoring At-Risk Communities w/ the 3Rs

The 3Rs (Relocation, Reconciliation, and Redistribution) relate to the ministry in which I serve in many ways. Since joining the Fuller Youth Institute program I have attempt to join many youth mentoring programs outside of the neighborhood that I live in. I believe I have a lot to offer and I wanted to be in the best organization to give me the best opportunity. The truth is I really wanted to do these but I also wanted a good salary as well.

The 3rs allows me to see the bigger picture of it all. Relocating to troubled, undeserved areas provides a better opportunity to serve because there is not better way to understand these areas than to live them. Reconciliation is probably the hardest step in our communities because one of the biggest issues is the racial wars. Another issue is the community’s understanding of God and the church. These are just two of many issues plaguing or communities, yet resolving them would probably more than half of our issues.

However, when both relocation and reconciliation are accomplished redistribution is the result. Redistribution is not philanthropy; it doesn't mean giving resources to the undeserved from an external source, but its moving resources and skills into these communities so that a natural, internal healing could occur. This would be a difficult yet effective way to restore our communities because our communities do not need any handouts, we need skills and resources to feed and strengthen ourselves
