Good soil is not easy to maintain!

I am no gardener and do not have a green thumb. But here is what i know... soil is important! I don't know much about how to get it good, but i know my bad soil doesn't produce good fruit!

Jesus says our hearts are like soil. Some are shallow, others are rocky, some get choked out with weeds, but a few are good and bear lots of fruit.

Bottom line: good soil, or a heart prepared to receive and do God's word is not easy to maintain. It takes lots of careful preparation:
1. Soil must be deep - got to give time to cultivate spiritual disciplines in order to hear, study, and learn what God says. Give yourself time to know what God says.

2. Soil must be soft - rid your soil of rocks by learning to relate to God through prayer. Prayer should acknowledge God's greatness, surrender to His will, seek His holiness, and ask for His provision. The main goal is God Himself.

3. Soil must be pure - a pure heart cannot be cultivated itself. Find another person going in the same direction and do life together. Confess sin, share struggles and joys, and support the pure soil of your hearts.

Very few Christians will experience this kind of life. It's just not easy, not quick, not convenient, not cheap, and not self reliant. Kind of like gardening!
