I'd not previously understood the foundation of the "nothing shall separate us" concepts in this chapter, and it's the pregnancy imagery in the earlier verses preceding it. Pregnancy isn't a static state. Growth and maturity are happening. So is preparation. All the equipment necessary to care for the child is purchased or otherwise acquired in the waiting period. Plans on how and where the child will be delivered are developed. And we are not God! How much more does He do in these preparatory stages?
"He knows us far better than we know ourselves. ..." (Romans 8:27) Why can't we just rest in that and let him prepare us for what's to come? Ultimately when we don't trust him in our circumstances and try to fix them ourselves without him, we're being disobedient.
Father, forgive us for staying self-focused. Help us gain new and fresh perspective on why things happen the way they do. Help us to trust when we don't see all the preparation you're making when you're birthing a new chapter in our lives and preparing us the way you do. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
