Does the Lord Turn Away?
Scripture
The Lord your God moves around in your camp to protect you and hand your enemies over to you. So your camp must always be holy. This way, the Lord will never see anything offensive among you and turn away from you.
Observation
When the people of Israel were at war and set up camp to fight their enemies, they were to stay away from anything that will make them unclean. Nothing unclean could be in the camp. Washroom and cleaning facilities especially were to be outside the camp.
Why? Because the Lord their God moved around in their camp to protect them and hand their enemies over to them. So the camp had to always be holy, ready for His holy presence. That which was unclean could not exist in the presence of holiness. This way, the Lord would never see anything offensive among them and turn away.
When the Lord was with them, they won the battles, even against larger, more powerful armies.
Application
Does the fact that I am saved by grace mean I don’t have to be concerned with holiness? God hasn’t changed from the time when the people of Israel were entering the promised land. He is still Holy. Uncleanness cannot survive in His presence.
Jesus died to pay the penalty for my sins on the cross. He loved me just as I was, but He loves me too much to leave me like that. He gives me the freedom and power to be holy. As I abide in Him and He in me, I am transformed into His likeness.
So, what about my camp? Does the Lord see things offensive in me that I tolerate, and turn away?
Prayer
Lord, thank you for your grace and the freedom I have to live the way you designed life. Show me the things in my life that cause You to turn away. May your Spirit continue to transform me to be more like You each day, living to my maximum potential.
