The Only One to Look To

We need to watch how closely and we follow another person. Whether that person is our pastor, mentor, teacher and especially someone we don't "personally" know. We are all human and because of that simple fact we can make mistakes, get off track and be led astray. I didn't use the term "fall into sin" because I don't think anyone falls into it, we do it by choice. Its an act of our will to do wrong and miss the mark. It's not just sin that can get us in trouble. What about wrong thinking? What about misinterpreting scripture? Teachers are vital and we need them, but we shouldn't immediately swallow everything that is taught by a pastor or teacher or written by a "scholar". You don't have to look to far to find a college professor with whacked out ideas. If what you hearing doesn't "sit" well with your spirit, don't immediately swallow it. Dig into it further, research the scripture(s) yourself, read the passage(s) in context, read them in different versions until you feel like you know what God's true meaning is. Allow the Holy Spirit to lead and guide you, ask for revelation of it. I'm not saying don't trust your pastor or whoever, but he or she is human and can and probably will error at some point, we all do. We are to follow someone else only as they follow Christ, and the devil delights in getting us to follow someone else's mistakes and errors.
