Guess who's coming to dinner? Luke 14:12-14 Day 78, Bible in 90 days
Scripture: Luke 14:12-14 MSG
Then he turned to the host. "The next time you put on a dinner, don't just invite your friends and family and rich neighbors, the kind of people who will return the favor. Invite some people who never get invited out, the misfits from the wrong side of the tracks. You'll be-and experience-a blessing. They won't be able to return the favor, but the favor will be returned-oh, how it will be returned!-at the resurrection of God's people."
Observation: This is an example of how God wants us to behave. Inviting the 'down and out' to dinner is usually not at the top of our lists, right? But the message in this passage is to look beyond our normal 'guest list' and look for people who NEED an invite!
Application: Would you ever consider inviting a stranger into your home for a meal? What about that man who stands outside the Starbucks you go to every morning before work? I'm sure you've probably given him a buck or two, or maybe you've even purchased him a cup of coffee, but is that REALLY making a difference? I'm going to be honest with you: I wouldn't feel comfortable inviting a stranger into my home. Maybe I'll get there eventually, but I'm not there yet! However, I can still make a difference by supporting those missions within my city who ARE inviting them in for not only a meal, but a warm bed, clean clothes and true fellowship. My favorite mission in our city is The Springfield Rescue Mission. You should check them out!
Prayer: Father I thank You for creating me with a heart like Yours. I have always wanted to help when I am needed, please help me to never lose that part of me. Help me to share your message with others without appearing to be a fanatic, so that those who want to know you more, can. In Jesus' name, Amen.
