The Charge

Paul charges Timothy to stay in Ephesus. Is this because Timothy sees the difficulties he faces and wants to give up and run away? Sometimes in our Christian walk, we encounter things that would be easier to ignore and walk away from. However we need to be bold in Christ and be prepared to challenge and instigate change!

Charge in ancient Greek (parangelia) has military significance... An order from a commanding officer to be obeyed. Therefore Paul is not presenting Timothy with an option, but telling him this is what has to be done!

We see here that false teachings don't necessarily need to be anti-Jesus, but anything that distracts us from the central message of the Word, anything that does not edify the body and will not produce fruit!
