The value of a fight
This verse says it was of the Lord to harden the hearts of Israel's enemies so they would battle. The reality is that God could have moved upon their hearts to seek peace. He had done this on one occasion and that was with the Hevites (previous verse) but his preferred means of giving them new land was through battle. The thing is, God knows there are so many irreplaceable things that are formed in us as we trust Him through the difficulties of battle. Our faith is enlarged. We learn how to hear his voice and walk out simple obedience. Our army learns to work together. And in the long run we value the land we possess far more than if it was just handed over to us through some type of peace agreement. There is great value in a fight so go ahead...grab hold of God and go take the land!
