It's all about the benjamins, baby. (or is it?) Luke 18:22, Day 79, Bible in 90 days

Scripture: Luke 18:22 MSG

When Jesus heard that, he said, "Then there's only one thing left to do: Sell everything you own and give it away to the poor. You will have riches in heaven. Then come, follow me."

Observation: Jesus was clear: your possessions on earth should be minimal if you really want a place in heaven. Rich people are going to have a really hard time on judgement day. I can only imagine how his disciples must have felt when they were traveling: they had to stay in the same house when they were traveling through each town, eat all meals offered in that house (no matter what it was!!!), and to not overstay their welcome. They couldn't bring any luggage either!

Application: What would YOU do? If right now Jesus showed up at your door and said 'come with me! But leave your clothing and makeup and lotion and soap and IPOD and blackberry and comfortable shoes. Oh and also leave your credit cards and starbucks and favorite snacks." What would you say? And beyond that, would you be willing to sell all of your possessions to give the money to the poor? How much is 'enough'?

Prayer: Father I admit I am materialistic. I admit that I sometimes depend on worldly items than I do on Your word. Help me to lean more on you with each passing day, and help me to continue to downsize my possessions in order to live a simple, holy life. In Jesus' name, Amen.
