Dead to Sin

The wording of verse 2, 'he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin' has over history created some strange responses. Including some individuals proactively creating suffering for themselves thinking that would make them sinless.

Peter's point is that when we are willing to suffer, to sacrifice, to give, to serve the nerve centre of sin is severed in our lives. We will never be totally free from sin in this life, but we can submit ourselves to God and therefore live primarily for his purposes and not our own, live to fulfil his desires first and foremost!
