Would you know my name? (If I saw you in heaven?)- Luke 20:34-36, Day 80, Bible in 90 days
Scripture: Luke 20:34-36 MSG
Jesus said, "Marriage is a major preoccupation here, but not there. Those who are included in the resurrection of the dead will no longer be concerned with marriage nor, of course, with death. They will have better things to think about, if you can believe it. All ecstasies and intimacies then will be with God.
Obsrvation: Jesus was asked about a woman who, because of the death of her spouse and the law that she is to marry a surviving brother, married seven different men. The question was posed: whose wife will she be in heaven? Jesus was clear: marriage is a major preoccupation here (on earth) but not in heaven. So essentially, your spouse on earth will no longer be your spouse in heaven. A spouse won't even be necessary in fact, because you will be so consumed with God, you won't have room for anyone else!
Observation: Growing up when someone would die, and their spouse had already died, people would say they had 'gone to join their loved one in heaven. But after reading this passage I'm wondering if that is even true? It reminds me of that Eric Clapton song 'would you know my name, if I saw you in heaven?" Can someone shed some light on this for me?
Prayer: Father as always I thank you for your word, and I especially thank you for the opportunity to serve today at the shelter. Thank you for putting your light in everyone today, from the helpers to the helped. Thank you for teaching us to be humble and helpful. In Jesus' name, Amen.
