Striving?

Scripture

He brings people under our authority and puts nations under our feet.

Observation

David was the greatest king of Israel. Under his reign, the people enjoyed peace and prosperity. Their nation had reached the zenith of power and prestige.

Yet, instead of taking the credit or letting the power get the better of him, the Psalmist is acknowledges the Lord as the Most High, the great king of the whole earth. He credits the Lord for his ascent to being king with people under his authority. The Lord is the one who expanded their territory, defeating their enemies bringing them under their dominion.

Application

I too give the credit for any authority or accomplishment I have to the Lord. He is the one who gifted me with the abilities I have. He gives me the gift of each new breath, every heartbeat.

This also means I do not need to strive for influence, position or power. My focus needs to be simply doing my best, in obedience to His call and direction, trusting Him to work through me, whether in tasks unseen or of great prominence.

Prayer

Lord God, thank you for all you have given me. Help me to live faithfully where You have placed me. May You be glorified in all I do. May your Kingdom come in, and through, me.
