Counterfeit Christianity (part 3)

"How to treat people right"

We treat people the way that we perceive them on the outside.

The principle: Don't show favoritism. (prejudice)

If you break one law, you've broken them all. All sin is the same in God's eyes.

Common areas of discrimination:

- Appearance

-- beauty is everything

-- how quickly do you judge people from the outside?

- Ancestry

-- people judge too quickly on the basis of race

- Affluence

-- the biggest form of prejudice on the basis of money

Romans 2:11 : God does not play favorites

What would you do with the scenario that James presents? How would your church treat them?

James does not criticize the man for being wealthy, he criticizes the church for being partial to him over the other.

Favoritism is Unreasonable (illogical)

- there is an inconsistency between God's character and the character of those who play favorites.

- God chooses things that are foolish according to the world to make the world seem foolish.

Favoritism is Unloving

- the greatest gift in this world is love

- the Law is summed up in one thing: love your neighbor as yourself. If we can fulfill this law, we wouldn't need any of the others.

- How we relate to other people shows the world how much we really love God.

Favoritism is Un-Christian
