Take up the Cross
What does it mean to take up the cross and follow Jesus in today's culture? It is not a literal cross, obviously. It is rather a picture of self-sacrifice and control.
First, it means to let him lead. If you own a vehicle, you know what it means to take the driver's seat and let someone else drive. Your hands are not on the wheel anymore.
Secondly, it means self denial. This one can be the toughest in today's culture. We have so much and it can be hard to say no to ourselves. There are however ways you can begin the process of self sacrifice through various ways of fasting.
And thirdly, it means a way of finding who you really are. Faith is about taking a hard look at yourself and ask the real difficult questions. Through this process of def-discovery, you will find yourself.
