Achuar-Shiwiar (acu) Peru and Ecuador There are 3,000 Achuar speakers in Peru. Alternate names are Achual, Achuale, Achuar, Achuara, Jivaro, and Maina. Achuar is different from Shuar [jiv] (Jivaro) of Ecuador. Jivaroan. Many Achuar speakers also use some Shuar. Achuar is an official language with a dictionary, grammar and a NT: 1981–1994 in the Latin script. Achuar-Shiwiar population in Ecuador is 2,000 in the Regions of Pastaza and Bobonaza River areas, approximately 7 villages. The total population in all countries is 5,000.
