Stop and Think
"Then I will go back to my place until they suffer for their guilt and turn back to me. In their trouble they will look for me." Hosea 5 (NCV)
Do you ever stop and think when you are suffering, that it could be God's way of getting your attention. He knows us so well. Being honest, during times of harvest and plenty, do we really look to God, or are we more likely to pat ourselves on the back. But let troubles come- then we either get mad at God or turn and run for him. We don't acknowledge him until we need rescue. Now turn that into a marriage. Imagine you are married to someone who takes and takes and gives nothing in return. They don't acknowledge that you even exist - not to their friends or anyone. They live their life like you aren't their provider and source of all things. Then let disaster strike and have that person come running back to you. Unlike me, who would turn and walk away, God forgives and actually wants us to run back to him.
Last note that just because you are suffering, does not mean you are having troubles in your relationship with God. He uses many things to draw us closer and to prepare us for the journey ahead and sometimes that is suffering. But what it should do is always draw us closer to our source of comfort in times of suffering.
