Here we see: "faith expressing itself through love". Yeah, bout that... I see a lot more "Christians" than I do love. I think what it is saying here is that love is a symptom of faith. If you have true faith, love will manifest itself. So what does it mean for a Christian to not show a lot of love? Where do they stand? Read more »

I have never "seen" this before. It goes back to the offerings and sacrifices to God in the OT. The aroma is what is left and goes up AFTER the sacrifice. We are (or should be) the aroma of Christ, the result of his sacrifice. The veres will stick with me for awhile. Read more »

asinner2 added a text contribution Effective prayer life
What sparks what you pray for? Why do you want it? Why do you need it? We pray for a job rather than praying for God to feed us and take care of us. We pray for doctors wisdom because we don't want to trust that God can heal someone. These two passages go hand in had to lead us to an effective prayer life. What is your mind set on? Read more »

asinner2 added a text contribution We don't "get" this at the time!
During our sufferings, we cannot grip this. Sure we can tell others who are suffering to "get" it but when it is us in the hot seat, we wine, grumble and moan about what we don't like or think we cannot handle. We need to lear to embrace this passage every time we suffer, during our suffering. Read more »

asinner2 added a text contribution Who are you listening to?
How many times have we not told someone about Jesus because it is against the rules? At work? At school? Why are we afraid of the world and why do we follow their rules? I pray that we can claim this passage on all christians. Sure we will lay down our life for Jesus... but not our jobs. Have our employers become the Priests and the Sadducees? Read more »

Go through these passages and see how the church grew: Acts: 1:15 = 120 believers 2:41 = 3000 believers 2:47 = The Lord added to their number 4:4 = 5000 believers 5:14 = more and more... Believed 6:7 = the number increased rapidly and acts 5:39 tells us why! Read more »

asinner2 added a text contribution quote half a verse
I sometime feel guilty when I look at only the first or last part of a passage. It is easy to forget that the verse numbers were not part of the original text. It is ok to split up a verse. Here a quote from Joel is cut short. Not taken out of context but chopped between the verse numbers. Do not feel bad if only 1/2 of a verse talks to you! Read more »

asinner2 added a text contribution Together!
While I do get the wonderful opportunity to pray with our Church staff and my accountability partners. I still think MORE would be better. How cool would it be to Love God so much that EVERY day we met with a few people to pray?! Imagine each day of the week meeting with different friends and praying. Hey, this is the communication age: we could meet online or over the phone. Anyhow, look what happens to the church by their efforts and diligence. They are about to go from 120 to mega church sta… Read more »

asinner2 added a text contribution with al this foolish talk
around Discovery, it's nice to know that we are not on our own. That the Holy Spirit will help us and teach us ALL THINGS and (I love this part) remind us what Jesus said!!! So don't put all the pressure on yourself but when you read/study trust in Gods Spirit to help teach you. Read more »

We all say yes without hesitation but the reality it most of us will sell Jesus out for the price of a movie ticket. Have you ever been in a movie that was way unacceptable? Sure you have, we all have. Did you leave? No, me neither. We will not waist $20 but we say "sure we would die for Him". What about your job? Would you lay that down for Jesus? If your job ask you to do something wrong or to STOP doing something that is right (like telling someone about Jesus), would you lay it dow… Read more »

asinner2 added a text contribution Jesus brings conviction
People hate our God and Jesus because he reveals our wickedness. He wants to remove the one thing we are best at, our selfishness. To accept Jesus is to accept that we need to change. The part that rarely gets to the world is the fact that Jesus will help us change. It insert Jesus is to replace sin/selfishness. Read more »

asinner2 added a text contribution time to go
When you look around and neither Jesus or His disciples are around... you MUST be in the wrong place! Go and find Him, it's not that hard. There is a good chance that you will not have to leave your seat. Read more »

asinner2 added a text contribution How far will you go?
I love this, Jesus crossed the water and a "great crowd" followed him. I can assume there were no bridges and boats are not just for the taking. So for that many people to cross the water must have been a challenge. I don't know how many crossed but the numbers eventually went to 5000. Today people will not go 20 minutes to church much less row across the river to get to it. We can find more excuses to avoid church than we can to go to church. I can defend my laziness better than… Read more »
