cforbesoklahoma added a text contribution Little OpportunitiesEveryday we have little conversations with people. Some people call it small talk, but you might think of it as “little opportunities” for encouraging others to get to know Jesus. Now, I am not talking about trying to manipulate every conversation into a sermon. I hate it when people try to commandeer a conversation and turn a dialog into a monologue. But you have many opportunities—within the context of a conversation to gently encourage people to turn to Christ. When you call your family, yo… Read more »

cforbesoklahoma added a text contribution Your Personalized Evangelism ResourceYou have an evangelistic resource that is powerful and unique to you. Your personal testimony is the only resource that comes custom to you. It is the story of how you came to believe in Jesus. No one can have an argument against your personal experience. I have found that people are interested in hearing how people came to faith in Christ—if you are organized that is! You need your testimony to serve as a life-long evangelism resource you can use over and over again. Take the time to write your… Read more »

cforbesoklahoma added a text contribution Are you ready to answer?Anyone can learn to share their faith. There are more resources available for learning how to walk another person through the gospel than in the entire history of the church. Just pick one you like and get started–today is better than tomorrow! Christians need to prepare to share. Practice talking about the gospel. We need to be ready to give answers to the questions people ask about our faith. Are you ready? Read more »

cforbesoklahoma added a text contribution Don’t let people intimidate you into silence!Christianity is very relevant for today, but there are people and organizations that are organized to minimize the influence of Christianity in your community. How organized are you to advocate your faith and values in the public square? When I was in college there was a distinct minority of people who were actively engaged in trying to debunk the Christian faith. They were called “professors” (Romans 1:22). At work, people can make you feel you are in the minority when you tell them you believe… Read more »

cforbesoklahoma added a text contribution SharIng Jesus Despite Your FearsDon’t worry if the thought of witnessing makes you nervous or afraid—you are not a spiritual weakling if you feel that way, you are normal. So how do you become a fearless witness? Maybe you don’t. Maybe you should not even try to not be afraid. Don’t spend time beating yourself up over fear of witnessing. Instead, set a goal to become a more courageous witness. What is a courageous witness? A person who, in spite of his/her fear, witnesses to other people. Courage is not the absence of fear. cforbesoklahoma added a text contribution "Out" Yourself as a ChristianIf you are going to be an effective witness, you can’t do it incognito. You have to be willing to be known of as a Christian if you are going to be a witness. (Yes, I am well aware in certain cases missionaries have to serve covertly to protect the people to whom they carry the gospel from being killed…I am not talking about that. I understand there are some other situations where it isn’t appropriate to be too overt also.) At times I meet people who are unwilling to let people know they are Ch… Read more »

cforbesoklahoma added a text contribution We need more people to be witnesses!Church leaders need to simplify the education process of evangelism and lower the learning curve for people so we can mobilize more people with the gospel. In missions the mantra is, “make it reproducible.” That is, we need to help people reproduce the gospel in their lives and make it simple enough for them to know how to take it to their friends. Whatever we can do to remove barriers to getting the gospel to spread naturally through relationships and kinship networks we should do it. As a m… Read more »

cforbesoklahoma added a text contribution On Organic EvangelismSome seem want to make evangelism so “organic” that they tend to downplay the more confrontational parts of the message—even neglecting the gospel all together in some ways. They take a “laissez faire” approach to conversion when it comes to relational evangelism. Just let it happen. To them, it’s not relational enough if the evangelist has an agenda to share the gospel. I don’t agree with that approach, but I do see it has become the view of many. Don’t get me wrong, I am all for organic, but… Read more »

cforbesoklahoma added a text contribution Redemptive Analogies in Evangelism & MissionsGod has placed a little of His image in us all, and as a result, all groups of people have traits that reflect God’s person and message (not perfectly, only in small ways). When you discover what these are, you uncover the bridge you can use, some call it the “redemptive analogy” that is the bridge for the gospel. Missionary Don Richardson talks about this in his book Eternity in Their Hearts. In fact, he talks about the process of Paul in Athens using the “Altar to an Unknown God” in just the… Read more »

cforbesoklahoma added a text contribution God is Already at Work!God is active in the world and has already gone before us in this process of sharing the message of salvation. As a minister, you can count on the fact that God is speaking already in the context you are serving. Our part is to join God where he is already working. Read more »
