cfossier added a text contribution One in every crowd
How could being drunk cause the apostles to speak plainly in other languages. Each person heard them in their own language and the best excuse was "They are drunk." There is one in every crowd who takes what is happening and tries to explain it away and point out the faults. Am I a fault-finder? Do I speak to uplift or to bring down? See things through the eyes of faith and your eyes will be opened like never before. Read more »

cfossier added a text contribution Practice what you preach
I have learned much about myself from being a parent. There were many times when I was correcting my children that God would slap me in the head and say "I have been telling you the same thing for years and you still don't get it!" It is said that talk is cheap and I agree. God wants us to examine our own hearts. He will reveal things to us about ourselves but if we are talking all the time we will never hear Him. Read more »

cfossier added a text contribution Ashamed?
Paul was not ashamed of the Gospel. He went from one who was vehemently opposed to one of its most out-spoken voices. That comes to me- how loud (or quiet) is my voice? Do I speak up or back away into the shadows? God wants us to be witnesses for him. Speak when given the opportunity. Read more »

cfossier added a text contribution Wisdom but from where?
There is a great difference between the wisdom on the world and the wisdom of God. The difference is so great it is at opposite ends of the spectrum. What the world tells us is opposite of what God's word tells us. What wisdom do I follow? Read more »

cfossier added a text contribution Prevent Forest Fires
Remember Smokey the Bear? "Only YOU can prevent forest fires." That was his motto. It is true that it is up to each one of us to prevent fires. What about fires that come from our tongue? Can it be prevented? Once it is said it cannot be stopped. No matter how many times we apologize or ask for forgiveness the damage cannot be taken back. The best way is to not say it in the first place. A fire in the forest starts with a small spark and then spreads out of control if the conditions ar… Read more »

cfossier added a text contribution Different Bits?
I wish this was an original thought but I must confess it is not. I learned something last night about bits. There are different bits for different horses for different reasons. Each bit has a specific purpose. God works in us in the same fashion. He purposefully chooses which bit He uses for us. The bit He chooses for me may not be the bit He chooses for you yet we are all part of the same body. My prayer today is that I will learn but more importantly that I will obey His teachings in my life.… Read more »

cfossier added a text contribution An Unlikely Hero
Can God work through the world and affect its course of history? Look and the story of Rahab for the answer to that. She was used by God to help accomplish the task of defeating Jericho. God can and does work in the world today as well speaking to the hearts of even the "unbelievers". There is talk that our country is heading downward with the effects of the economic news but let's learn from the unlikely hero named Rahab. God uses and works through those He choses to use to accom… Read more »

cfossier added a text contribution A Friend of God
Abraham is a great example of James 2:23. Faith without works is dead. Abraham had faith but his leaving home was action of his faith. All the faith in the world is a great thing to have but it still must be demonstrated. I am not talking about working your way into heaven, but a working of faith in your heart will produce works that will make God say about us "You have believed in Me and demonstrated that to Me by your actions, and I will account it for you to righteousness!'" cfossier added a text contribution What about the Son?
Ask someone about God and hear them say they believe in God. While that is true is that enough? It takes more than a belief. Even the demons believe and have even acknowledged Jesus as His Son. But more is needed than just a head knowledge. What is all boils down to is not what you believe about the Son but what you do with the Son. Read more »

cfossier added a text contribution Faith and Works
Do you think faith can be shown without works? I think the answer is no. We are not talking about salvation. We are talking about an active faith that is alive. This kind of faith will be shown in works and the works should bring glory to God, not the worker. Faith is not just shown in our relationship to God, it is shown by our obedience to Him as well. Obedience is another word that is an action word. If obedience is not in action what good is it? It is the same way with works. Read more »

cfossier added a text contribution Faith vs. Works
2:14 Works vs. faith. The two should exist and walk hand in hand. Faith is what leads us to believe and accept what Christ has done for us. Works are like the fruit that grows off the vine. John 15:5 talks about Jesus being the vine and we are the branches. Fruit does not grow because the branches do anything. The fruit grows because of the work the vine is doing. Works are the fruit of our faith. Our faith is what leads us down the road of life but our works is how we reach out to others as we… Read more »

cfossier added a text contribution The Law of Liberty
2:8-12 sounds a lot like Matt 5:21-48 where Jesus is takingabout the law and applying it to how we should live. It is not the letter of the law but the content and how we apply it to our lives. Jesus finishes this section in 5:48 with the challenge and call for us to be perfect. Is that possible? With Him it is! And by His law we will be judged, the law of liberty. Read more »
