chapter_and_verse added a text contribution The Fountain That Never Runs DryThis portion of scripture speaks big time to where and how we are getting filled in life. Are we going to the "Fountain of LIving Waters" to be forever filled, satisfied and made clean or are we going ot our dirty sewage water wells that hold nothing but murky, disgusting and unclean water. This latter "water" I am speaking of are things in the world that promise to fill us up but never do. Here we see these people (much like us) have forsaken the Lord, the Fountain of Liv… Read more »

chapter_and_verse added a text contribution PreservationThe doctrine of perseverance shows itself here in this verse. Obviously the LORD is the one who keeps us, sustains us and guards us. I am in Him and He is in me and I have His protection and He preserves His saints forever. Not only am I preserved but I have great joy to go along with it, after all, Jesus is the most satisfying Person in the Universe! Read more »

chapter_and_verse added a link contribution Because You Are ChosenThis was taken from a portion of a blog entry about a John Michael Talbot concert and the last song John sang that night. The song that John sung speaks of these verses. He sings this in a prayer . A few years ago, back in 2003 I was touched by this song and wept under God's repentant hand on me. Here is part of the entry: The last song of the evening broke me and sent me crying for joy. I was just sobbing but trying to keep it together. The song that John sang last was called "… Read more »

chapter_and_verse added a text contribution Man's InabilityI read this a couple of nights ago and realized how totally depraved we really are according to scripture. Not ONE of us has EVER sought after God, no not ONE! That is so humiliating but glorious for His grace, mercy, love and kindness towards us wretched, wicked, evil, depraved sinners! If it wasn't for Him seeking us we would be eternally lost forever. Read more »

chapter_and_verse added a text contribution True repentanceIf ever I needed a picture of what repentance looked like, I can find it here in verse 9. They turned from idols to serve the living and true God of the Universe. How awesome and glorious it is to be free from the bondage of sin through the gift of repentance and faith in the Lord Jesus. When God grants us repentance we turn from our idols and we turn to Him the most satisfying and ultimate pleasure in the universe. Jesus is more than enough for me! Read more »

chapter_and_verse added a text contribution God's ElectionI suggest you go to www.desiringgod.org and read John Piper's view of God's Divine Election to His Chosen and Called people. It's a humbling view to see a holy God even save any of us at all. I also recommend two books, by one R.C. Sproul called "Chosen by God" and another one by Sam Storms called "Chosen for Life". Keep digging and searching...I continue to do the same too! :) Happy seeking! :) Read more »

chapter_and_verse added a text contribution Hell, real or notI have had some conversations with a friend (in Lifechurch) who is questioning the doctrine of an eternal hell. In fact, he is embrassing the universalists view that hell is not forever and all will be saved, including demons, satan and the likes of Stalin, Hitler, Nero and others. None of us, and I'll say it again--NONE OF US, deserve heaven, we all deserve hell, fire, brimstone, judgment, wrath and God's anger BUT He was gracious to us and gave us His Son. God's love was demo… Read more »

chapter_and_verse added a text contribution Thanksgiving & PraiseI just had a renewed since of worship, praise, honor, glory, power in exalting, extoling and lifting up my God. Look at the exclamation points in this Psalm, it's awesome. Our God is so awesome to let us share in His goodness and mercy and love. The Lord takes pleasure in us fearing Him and trusting in His steadfast love that never fails nor ceases. Truth love casts out all fear and true love never fails. I'm not sure how to reconcile the first one but a healthy God-centered and C… Read more »

chapter_and_verse added a text contribution Thank God for JesusProverbs 20v9 "Who can say, I have made my heart pure; I am clean from my sin?" The rhetorical question that stopped me and caused me to reflect on the goodness of our God in the sacrifice of His Son, Jesus Christ. We are such a vile, wicked, nasty, disgusting, depraved, low and unworthy people with Jesus, but then He came died and rose again to give us new life. I can't make myself pure or clean but only through the precious blood of Jesus Christ can I be a new creature, a new… Read more »

chapter_and_verse added a text contribution You will KNOW the TRUTHI ask myself this question and to my friends often, "Who is the truth?" Well, Jesus said here "You will know the truth and the truth will set you free." Then later on in this chapter Jesus says as plain as day "If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed." Wow, Jesus is the Truth that sets us free. Amazing! It's not our small groups, friends, family, church social clubs or what not that set us free it's the Holy Incarnate Word of God, Jesus Chri… Read more »

chapter_and_verse added a text contribution Angels singing?I find it interesting that we have many Christmas carols that say that angels sang the famous line in verse 14 but as I can see they didn't. Now, does that mean angels can't sing or don't sing, no. But contrary to popular belief, angels did not sing to the shepherds watching their flocks by night. Does it matter if they sang or it said it...no, but scripture points out they were praising God and SAYING...but I am okay with songs such as "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing"… Read more »

chapter_and_verse added a video contribution God Rest Ye Merry GentlemenThis song has lost it's meaning because of changes in the English meaning of certain words. I want to shed some light on this great hymn of proclomation of Christ's incarnation. The word merry in the Middle Ages meant "mighty" or "strong" where as today it means happy, but not so then. For example, Robin Hood's band of Merry Men, would have been "mighty men", a merry singer was a "strong singer", a merry ruler was a "mighty ruler&quo… Read more »
