    Is the gift of tongues for today? Of course, it did not pass away and nothing of the sort is tought anywhere in scripture. Is speaking in tongues often misused and misunderstood in church? Of course. Paul gives instructions on tongues during public assembly and explains what it's for. In Acts 19:2 Paul ask the new believers if they have received the Baptism of the Holy Ghost since they believe, then he lays hands on them and they speak in tongues.     Daniel was taken out of his environment and thrown into a drastically new one. I equate this to being transferred to a new school. Daniel made a very significant decision as this transplant took place. He chose not to defile himself. Dan 1:8 But Daniel resolved that he would not defile himself with the king's food, or with the wine that he drank. Therefore he asked the chief of the eunuchs to allow him not to defile himself.
