danscott77 added a text contribution Pauls' Life in One Sentence.
For some reason, I just love these verses. I think it has something to do with the completion of vision. Paul takes on the charge to bring the gospel to the Gentile population in Asia Minor. There are some who disagree and try to change his message, but he keeps on knowing that he has a calling. A calling that is ultimately fulfilled. Basically, these verses state the obvious: Paul did what God called to do and was successful at it. How about having that said at the end of our lives? "Dan… Read more »

danscott77 added a text contribution Why?
Now I've studies Biblical genre. I know that these are principles by which to live not promises to be taken literally. But why do so many of us live completely opposite of the truths found in these verses (and multiple others throughout the Bible)? Such great reminders today.... Read more »

danscott77 added a text contribution the cloud and the fire
Wouldn't it be nice to have the cloud and the fire to guide our steps? But then again, where is the adventure in that?! And so we trust and take steps, one foot in front of the other, as we listen to the Spirit's calling. Easy? No. Necessary for growth? More than we could ever know or understand. Read more »

danscott77 added a text contribution too easy.
I just got back from Costco. WOW! Did I ever want to gorge on STUFF. TVs, dSLRs, designer jeans, and loads of gourmet foods. I wanted everything. It was sick... but it's too easy to hit a mall or a store like that and be consumed with materialism. This parable is always a good reminder to me of how I should really live my life, what I should care about. Read more »

danscott77 added a text contribution just imagine.
I can't imagine being a Jew and hearing Jesus say this. He has outted himself as the Messiah and basically has thrown down the gauntlet. I can just see everyone in the room with jaws dropped and stunned one moment and clamoring with gossippy discussion the next - "Did he just say what I think he said?!" I love having these moments captured for us. Read more »

danscott77 added a text contribution Make a list...
Today - make a list of everything that you're thankful for. As it happens if you can, just jot down each moment. At the end of the day, you'll have plenty of material to bring before God in thanksgiving. Keep mindful of his goodness each moment of the day. Read more »

Is this passage why I had to wear 3 piece suits every time I stepped foot in Sunday School as a child?! Seriously, this is some outfit... and the consequence for not getting right... yowza! Read more »

danscott77 added a text contribution Hardest thing ever.
This is following Jesus at its core. This is what it takes. This can't be faked or taken lightly. This is gut level and serious. Following Jesus, if we REALLY want to follow and BE the hands and feet of Jesus, is the hardest thing ever. So thankful, for people around me to encourage me along the way... there's no way I could do this on my own. Read more »

danscott77 added a text contribution worship songs?
Yeah.... I want someone to write a modern worship song with those lines. "They sleep their last sleep." Doesn't it make you wonder the melody line? It like something that would come from TOOL or NIN not from Chris Tomlin. Just Sayin' Read more »

danscott77 added a text contribution law = crazy.
As I read through this list of ifs, ands, and buts I keep thinking to myself, how would anyone EVER be able to remember these, let alone actually follow through on the covenant to keep them. Makes me even more thankful for Jesus... not that the plan laid out in the Sermon on the Mount is any easier, but Jesus is casting such vision there. This feels like a laundry list being read by Ben Stein in Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Read more »

danscott77 added a text contribution Jesus' street cred.
Even in ministry so many of us can be accused of name dropping or surrounding ourselves with the right people to show the other people that we're important. We try and leverage our own ministries by our association with the "important" people in the church world. I love that Jesus leverages his ministry completely opposite of that. He hangs out with the outsiders to prove that his mission isn't about hanging out with "important" people. It's almost as if he ma… Read more »

danscott77 added a text contribution DANG!
OK, seriously? Has anyone prayed a prayer like this recently? This is the sort of thing that gets me confused with God. In the US, a song like this would get a Parental Advisory sticker on it. Yet, here it is included in Scripture. And Jesus says to turn the other cheek.... how do the two fit together? Yet, perhaps I have (in so many words) prayed this prayer myself... and what we're hearing is David's raw emotion poured out in song. God allowed a dark moment to be captured for all of… Read more »

Exodus 4.1 “Moses answered, “What if…” A few weekends ago, I taught on this passage to 4/5th graders. We were studying Resourcefulness as our Big Idea for the month. The bottom line was "God will give you what you need to get the job done." I remember thinking that the kids would find it difficult to transfer God calling Moses to help rescue His people from slavery to God calling each of them to make wise choices about how they love their friends. We tend to think of this passage in t… Read more »

danscott77 added a text contribution Perspective
"It was not you who sent me here, but God..." I wish I knew what God was doing with my life when life isn’t going my way. I’m sure Joseph didn’t when he was sold into slavery, accused of something he didn’t do, thrown into prison and forgotten while he was there. The whole time he kept this great attitude. I get woken up at 5:30 a.m. by my little girl, and it has the potential to set me off for the rest of the day. I need a better perspective. According to human reasoning, Joseph had e… Read more »

danscott77 added a text contribution wait in hope.
Waiting isn't fun, in fact sometimes it outright stinks. I love how the song writer decides to wait. He waits with hope and rejoices in God. We're in the middle of a season of waiting with an unknown end in sight - could be tomorrow, could be three months from now. This psalm is such a great reminder of how we need to wait. We must still rejoice because God is who he promises to be and trust knowing that. Read more »

danscott77 added a text contribution ministry on my terms?
Reading this tonight, I just realized that the feeding of the 5000 came right after Jesus’ cousin was beheaded. Jesus was trying to escape and most likely morn his cousin’s death and crowds follow him. Rather than turn them away and get his much needed alone time, Jesus ministered to them, cared for their needs and healed their infirmities and eventually made dinner for all of them. He saw beyond himself and summoned the strength of his father and served the people. I know that I couldn’t have d… Read more »

danscott77 added a text contribution love people.
I just ask myself are my priorities like Jesus'? I don't consider myself a Pharisee by any means, but working in church programming I can get so caught up in show that I miss out on the people. I think (hope) I'm getting better, but it's a constant struggle for me to take the time and care for the people who make that show happen week after week. Church is about healing lives, not always putting on a good show. Read more »

danscott77 added a text contribution distrubing and gracious
This has got to be one of the most disturbing chapters in the Bible... gang rape, heartless father, really desperate daughters... we are so fallen and in such need of Jesus. Yet in the midst of the disturbing tales from Sodom and Gamorrah, God is still rescuing the sinner and being true to his promise to Abraham. I swear that God is in the search and rescue business. danscott77 added a text contribution handing over the keys
I absolutely LOVE these verses. Always have. Always will. I'm not going through any difficult time that these verses speak so much to me in the moment. But I know their value nonetheless. I've prayed them before; I'm sure I'll pray them again. Why do try and do life on our own strength? His strength is so much greater. In times of stress, why can't we just hand over the keys and let him drive. After all, he know where we're going way better than we do. Read more »
