donttalkmedown added a text contribution BelievingThese guys are my heros. Much like the early Christians of Acts, these guys believed with a faith that transcends knowledge. they didn't have resources like Scripture. they had the trust in the stories of their families. How is it that they could believe in God so trustingly, and we who have the resources in our hands MUST question everything in the pursuit of knowledge? Read more »

donttalkmedown added a text contribution The Days of OldI think David is such a special man. He admits his heart breaks as he watches the world around him change. Once he used to walk among worshippers. His people sought after God. Now he walks among scoffers, the people taunt him and dismiss God. His heart breaks for his people. his prayer and his cry are for the world. It is the same now. We see our world running farther from God, taking him out of everything. then they cry "where is your God?" Do they not see that they have banned him fr… Read more »

donttalkmedown added a text contribution Moses Needs Convincingtruly, i feel bad for the guy. God scares the pants off him, and then gives him instructions to go into the biggest and deadliest adventure of his life. but its interesting to read that the first thing God says to Moses is "i have seen the oppression and i have come to save them." then when he tells Moses to go, he's like "who am i to save them?" If Moses could remember that God said "I" would he have questioned it? God works through us many times, but doesn… Read more »

donttalkmedown added a text contribution Now go! for i am sending YOU...i would be a little freaked out if God showed up in the form of all consuming, but never destroying fire and said, "hey, i pick you...get to it." this is a very powerful verse to me. maybe God doesn't reveal himself to us (in this age) like he did back then because he knows we would never be able to handle it. we have gotten weak through the ages, and i think our hearts would just stop...or explode if God tried to show himself to us Read more »

donttalkmedown added a text contribution David Gets Iteven from the OT times we see that true God fearing people understood that reconciliation did not come from burnt sacrifices but from following the will of God. it was not by ceremonial traditions that a person spoke to God, but in the words of the heart and the intimacy. David was intimate with God, by the words and poetry he created, you could see that his heart and mind was on the things of God and he desired to follow him wholly. what a wonderful example he is to us! donttalkmedown added a text contribution Jacob's last daysisn't it kind of cool that God tells Jacob his days are numbered? Jacob gets to know when he will day and spend his last days reunited with his whole family, living together with all the provisions he needs. i would feel pretty peaceful in God's faithfulness if i were him. donttalkmedown added a text contribution Said It StraightJoseph was the man, and a great role model to all the fellas out there... take note. he had all the power and success, thanks to Potifer. he could've been Potifer. but he remembered that he was a servant first. a servant to God, then to his master Potifer, both of whom had been kind to him. People who are under men of integrity tend to show integrity themselves. People who are happy in their workplace are productive and loyal. Joseph was a stand-up guy in a tough situation. and my standards… Read more »

donttalkmedown added a text contribution I Have A DreamGod gave Joseph a dream. and then he waited. and waited. don't you think he got discourage a lot during this time. God said that his brothers would bow down to him, but he was sold away into slavery. what did he do? He worked diligently and honored God. it says nothing of him complaining or pleading to God for answers . he just lived the best he could in his circumstances. Read more »

donttalkmedown added a text contribution Dreameri feel like this happens all too often to dreamers who make their feelings known. EVERYONE wants their own dreams to come true. i dont even understand why people dont want others dreams to be fulfilled. we get jealous because someone else is actually moving toward their goals and we're to lazy to move toward our own? thats absurd if you ask me! and its the most ridiculous thing to put others down or take others out because they are getting too near their dreams. why does it make us feel bet… Read more »

donttalkmedown added a text contribution I Don't Know About This....it seems to me that Jacob cheated his way to the top. He manufactured flawed animals, knowing the whole time that Laban had to give those to him. God doesn't say anything about it. Was he in the wrong? isn't that deceptive? God warns Jacob and tells him to flee and He will be with him. God is still with us, even when we sin... then we see that God told Jacob to do these things because He saw that Jacob was being cheated. so God told him to do this, but still it seems deceptive to me. donttalkmedown added a text contribution Come On Guys, Have Some Faith!it gets to me how many times Jesus has to say this to his disciples (and by disciples, i mean me, i mean Christians today, and i mean those guys there in the bible) Over and over, don't you remember when i did this, what are you worried about? you're with me, I Am with you. i feel like Jesus is saying this with some conviction in his voice, and yet i feel compassion in his voice too. he wants us to be a part of how he sees the world and he continually gives us opportunities to do so. donttalkmedown added a text contribution Red at Night, Sailor's DelightJesus uses Pop Culture too! how funny is it to hear Jesus say "you know the saying..." He came here, and used a LOT of parables to teach to the people. it was for them to use their brains a little to seek what they meant. maybe Jesus didn't think the Pharisees and Sadducees could handle a parable, so he gave them something even more childish than that, a popular saying! maybe this was a little more their comprehension level! ;) Read more »

donttalkmedown added a text contribution Jesus does this, Jesus does thati think it is sssoooo interesting that Jesus' life, his story, is full of this and that and healing people and going to these towns and interacting with religious leaders, and it is STILL worth mentioning, every time, that Jesus meets the crowd and heals them all. in little 3 verse blurbs, the author of Matthew, reveals the unnerving, unending, undistracted, unfailing faithfulness and commitment of Jesus to his people. ladies and gentlemen, we are the masses. we are the lame in consciousnes… Read more »

donttalkmedown added a text contribution What was Jesus doing?Jesus wanted to see what this woman would do. he knew whether or not she truly had faith, maybe he was helping her discover her own shortcomings... showing her she didn't have faith enough. maybe jesus did this for her benefit...or maybe more for the benefit of the disciples as they watched? they were so quick to dismiss her and complain about her persistence. what did jesus want them to learn about compassion...again? "are you still so dull? Read more »

donttalkmedown added a text contribution "What If I Stumble"there's a song by DC Talk called "What If I Stumble" and the opening words are these: "the greatest single cause of atheism in the world today is Christians - who acknowledge Jesus with their lips and walk out the door and deny him by their lifestyles. that is what an unbelieving world simply finds... unbelievable." what makes us different than the people of these verses? are our teachings "but rules taught by men?" i also shudder at this verse, and wonder at… Read more »

donttalkmedown added a text contribution Where You AreJesus' disciples were all ready to tell the people to go take care of themselves, do what they need to do to... but Jesus was already to provide for them all, where they were. Jesus tells his followers- "you feed them." reminds me of Jesus telling Peter, "feed my sheep" If the people are in need, go to them. get out of the church and go to where they gather. the disciples respond with "we don't have what it takes." and jesus takes over, SHOWING that he… Read more »

donttalkmedown added a text contribution Big Bad Kingits funny to me that Herod, the big bad ruler, was ruled himself by fear. who ever heard of a king afraid to do what he wanted because of the opinions of the people. the age of kings must've been changing... it reminds me of the emperor in The Last Samurai that says "I am a living god, as long as I do what *they* think is right." i wonder if John the Baptist would've been murdered if Herod had been more like a king, and less like a politician... donttalkmedown added a text contribution Rejectedhow classic "small town" reaction is this? two things happen when you leave a small town to go out into the world: you make something of life, come back home, and people treat you like a celebrity, or you ARE a celebrity... and the they put up signs when you drive into town that say "home town of dolly parton" OR you go out and make something of life, come back, and people act like they don't know you, or act like you think youre too good for this place. see, nobody in s… Read more »

donttalkmedown added a text contribution Taken Awaysometimes when i hear this passage, it discourages me. why does Jesus say that whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away. it makes me feel like people who got the raw deal in the cards they were handed will not have much hope for coming out of trouble. but i think in this case, its talking about knowledge and understanding. he who has knowledge/understanding will be given more. makes sense, if you can understand this idea, itll be easier for you to understand other ideas. and he… Read more »

donttalkmedown added a text contribution Warthere is a slight oddity about living like Christ here. the prophecy says that he will not fight or shout or raise his voice in public, but he also says that whoever is not with me, is against me. we ARE fighting a war, but how do we fight and be as humble and peaceful as Jesus? It is also said of Jesus, "i didnt not come to bring peace, but a sword." but he "will not crush the weakest reed or put out a flickering candle." i want to know more about war and pacifism Read more »
