fiodax added a text contribution Speaking Truth To Power
Some study Bibles will say here that it's possible that Paul didn't know who he was talking to, that his bad eyesight or some other factor could have made him unaware that he was speaking to the high priest. I don't know how or why you could come to this conclusion. If we read the speech just previous to this, Paul goes to great length to establish that he himself was a zealous Pharisee. He obviously would have been able to distiguish the High Priest from anyone else. In fact h… Read more »

fiodax added a text contribution Take your wife and kids with you
When you are fellowshipping with other men, bring your wife and kids, and have the other men bring theirs. If you dont, you will be getting spiritually nourished while your wife stays at home and watches the kids, and then you'll wonder why she doesn't seem to be growing as close to God as you. God wants us to fellowship as families. This way all are provided for. Your kids need to see and hear you fellowshipping and ministering with other believers, otherwise they won't conn… Read more »

Don't be fooled into thinking that the state cares what you believe. This roman official could care less if the people believed in Jesus or Artemis. He just didn't want to get in trouble. The state doesn't care what we believe, they are concerned with what we do. In this part of Acts Christianity is called "The Way", it's not called "the idea" or "the doctrine" or "the theology", it was call the WAY. it denotes a doing. Christ pro… Read more »

fiodax added a text contribution Repent
The value of these books would have been in the millions of dollars. Why didn't they sell them and use the money for good works? Because they were repenting of sin, crucifying and destroying it. They didn't keep a copy of their favorite book to put on the mantle and remember the good old days, they didn't have a garage sale and pass the sin on down to the next guy, they got rid of it. Get rid of those objects related to your sin. If they are immoral don't sell them, dest… Read more »

If we will seek hard after God and seek his holy spirit we will begin to experience all kinds of renewal around us. The people who were healed by Pauls hankerchief were healed physically and temporarily (as they all would still eventually die), however they would still need to hear and respond to the Gospel to be healed spiritually and eternally. As churches we should strive for righteous living, so that the Holy Spirit is healing even those that come into our presence, and we must remember a… Read more »

fiodax added a text contribution You are the silversmith.
Don't gloss over this section thinking about those crazy pagans and their idols. We do that too much, the silversmith is in all of us. We take our sin and we build and identity around it, soon enough we are dependant on it for our happiness, our purpose in life and our livelyhood. It's the things that if your friend or parent comes up to you and confronts you about your first reaction is to defend yourself. Much like the silversmiths chanted "Great is Artemis", we defend… Read more »

Romans 13:1 isn't about blindly obeying government, if that were the case then we ought to have not resisted Hitler, and we ought to support abortion (because it's legal according to our government). The words "governing authorities" are more accurately translated to "higher powers", and these powers are appointed by God to be ministers of God. Ministers of God, does that sound like most politician to you? That's because it's not. Paul is saying that God i… Read more »

fiodax added a text contribution Jesus Knows
Jesus need not consider situations, review facts, hear pleadings, or otherwise engage in subjective methods of gaining contexts over a situation in order to determine what is right and wrong. He is the standard for truth, for good, and for righteousness. He always knows and does what is right because it is Him who alone is the standard bearer. No matter your political or philosophical leanings, without Christ, you are left to try to determine truth and goodness subjectively based on perceptio… Read more »

fiodax added a text contribution God is in control
With all that is going on in the world it's easy to point at the big evil "them" and rant and fear about your rights being taken away. How quick we forget that God is always on His throne. Considering his mighty power should consume all of our fear, leaving none left for the world. The conspiracies and plans of men shouldn't phase us in light of our Holy God! So don't get caught up in the hype, it will just cause you to lose focus. Stay focused on Jesus Christ, the… Read more »
