gregchaney added a link contribution Eat Your PeaceIn past years the dinner table at our house frequently rang out with the words “eat your peas!” We had the same plea of parents everywhere for our young ones to eat healthy food. It occurred to us, the intent of our plea was to set a habit of good nutrition, it really wasn’t peas themselves that were the issue it was the benefit of the peas. Life-long devotion to health was our primary goal, how nutrition was delivered was secondary. We determined that it was impossible to achieve our prim… Read more »

gregchaney added a link contribution Walking in the LightThrough Christ we bask in the light of the new heaven and new earth and become the avenue of redemption for God on this old earth. Our mission is to let the light of Christ reflect from our lives so that others will follow. In doing so we are preparing for the day when “the glory and honor of the nations will be brought into it.” Our primary purpose is to live and build the glory and honor for God on that day. This drives our worship, mission, and life. Read more »

gregchaney added a link contribution Two Sparrows for a PennyThe little English sparrow is a great success story. The insignificant little bird is actually not a sparrow, but a member of the weaver family of birds. Brought to America, probably as a stowaway on early ships, it took hold in the New World and became one of the most dominant birds we see. Jesus also spoke of sparrows, the sparrows of Jerusalem. He remarked in Matthew 10 that two of them sold for just a penny. Then He makes the astounding observation that not one of them falls to the groun… Read more »

gregchaney added a link contribution Heart of DarknessHumans have a heart of darkness. Left to our own devices, or trusting in anything (idols) other than love from God will trap us there. This true for sinners (all of us) and those who consider themselves saints but trust in traditions more that God. There is only one way to escape a heart of darkness – Christ. Any addition or subtraction will shadow the light from shining in our hearts. Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have t… Read more »

gregchaney added a link contribution Darkness Has Lost Its MeaningDarkness doesn’t mean the same thing today as it did 2000 years ago. In the first century people understood and feared real darkness so they got it when Jesus told them, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life” John8:12 (NIV). If you’re not a Christian you’re walking in darkness, put your trust in Christ who is the light. gregchaney added a link contribution DisconnectedBut people who would never chose to live their physical lives as a drifter make choices putting them in the same situation spiritually. Jude, verse 13, refers to ungodly individuals who are described as “wandering stars, for whom blackest darkness has been reserved forever”. The most tragic thing that can happen to a human being is to disconnect from God, in computer terminology, “disconnected from the network”. Read more »

gregchaney added a link contribution What's a Snake Doing in Paradise? by David AllenIndividuals have lost their faith in God because they misunderstood His promise. He promised to walk with us in good times and bad, on the tops of mountains and in the Valley of the Shadow of death. That is His promise, He did not promise to keep us here forever. Read more »

gregchaney added a link contribution Not So Grand OpeningJesus had told them over and over it would happen; people should have been there. Perhaps that’s what Jesus expected...but nobody was there. Was Jesus disappointed? Jesus is coming again. If we are not there to meet him he WILL be disappointed. Be ready, do what he tells us to do, and use your talent to build the next great welcoming party when He comes again. Read more »

gregchaney added a link contribution Sins of AttritionThe Word of God explains Christians are about relationship not rules. Our obedience (omitted and committed) is because we love God and value his presence in our lives. Sins of attrition refer to any activity that causes a slow drift away from our relationship with God. Sometimes seemingly harmless activities over a lifetime lead us to a point we are separated from God and don’t even recognize it until it’s too late. Read more »

gregchaney added a link contribution What the Old Man Does ISN'T Always Right"What the Old Man Does is Always Right" is a powerful parable illustrating how sins can slowly result in a drift away from a strong relationship with God. We can justify our actions all we want, but if in the end we are left with a rotten relationship our eternal reward is at risk. Read more »

gregchaney added a text contribution The Most Important ThingGood news! Jesus Christ died for our sins, we have hope (and promise) of eternal life. For Christians, the most important thing is the gospel described by Paul in his letter to the church in Corinth. The gospel: Jesus Christ died for our sins and was raised back to life. It is our faith in this gospel and obedience through baptism and a faith full (and faithful) life that saves us from eternal death. Read more »
