hando added a text contribution Reasoning with GodTo me this is once more a facinating picture of Gods willingness to engage in meaningful communication with us (just like he did with Abraham in Genesis 18). Moses is reasoning with God here and convinces him not to destroy Israel. Message version says that as a result of the converstaion God "thought twice" and "decided not to do evel he had threatened...". hando added a text contribution Bargaining with God?These verses are stunning as they open up new facet in the relationship with God. We see a man negotiating with God and God does not seem to mind it. When reading the passage I get a bit uncomfortable at about verse 29. I kind of feel like saying stop it Abraham, this is God you are talking to, how many times you want to test his nerves. Yet God goes as far as Abraham is willing to go.
