    They did all these things. Jesus doesn't say, "... they think they prophesied ... pretended to cast out devils ... did many so-called wonderful works ..." He says they actually did these things. Did they have the Holy Spirit? If so, can you have the Holy Spirit and have Jesus profess "I never knew you?" If they didn't have the Holy Spirit, how did they do all these things?     Did Paul really just exclude all other sins as being "against his own body?" I know fornication represents a class of sins from lust to adultery, but also I've heard Christians try to say that actions unrelated to fornication like smoking are sins because it wrecks the temple of the Holy Spirit. But Paul seems to refute that dogma. Read more »

    Here we see the quintessential "garage sale verse." Someone will haggle down the price of something by claiming how worthless the item for sale is. Then when they get home, they put it on eBay. We are free to haggle, but if in our heart we know the item for sale is worth closer to the asking price, we shouldn't just lie to get a great deal. Read more »

    Verse 12:1 says it is six days before Passover, which probably means the journey began on a Friday. Verse 19:31 states that the crucifixion and burial of our Lord was on the Day of Preparation (Wednesday) and this day preceded a high Sabbath day (not necessarily the seventh day Sabbath).
