jasonc128 added a text contribution Doves, Lambs, and SwordsWhat is it about Jesus that makes Him so hard to be seen as the One? John the Baptist says that he wouldn't have known Jesus was the Messiah if God hadn't told him ahead of time to watch for a sign. He was supposed to watch for the Spirit to settle on someone. Again, we have that imagery from Genesis. God the Creator, speaking words about the Spirit. When John saw the dove settle on Jesus, he knew. What about Jesus makes it so hard to take Him seriously? I still struggle with it. Jus… Read more »

jasonc128 added a text contribution John the Baptist is so cool!!Reading through John 1:19-28 today. Wow, I learned a lot! For example, in this passage, John begins telling us about the first week of Jesus' ministry. I never noticed the "the next day" verses in 29, 35, 43, etc. John continues his parallel to Genesis 1 that he began in the very beginning of the book. I love that kind of detail that God puts in. Here the creator is creating again, a new ministry, a new era, a new history. All in seven days, ending with a miraculous marriage and… Read more »

jasonc128 added a text contribution They Missed itIt struck me that God sent John to tell the people about Jesus. He physically pointed at Jesus and said, "He's the One." The people liked John and followed him. Why didn't more people follow Jesus? I think they probably did, and then He ran them off with crazy demands. What scares me is I don't worry about crazy demands from Jesus running me off. Not because of my "super" faith, but I'm not hearing them from Him. Is He not asking anymore, or have… Read more »

Read it over, and let's come up with some ideas. 1. What is John's main idea? 2. What words stick out to you in these verses? 3. Why do you think God has brought out those words? Share your thoughts, and let's talk about it! Read more »

jasonc128 added a text contribution Peter's First SermonI never really thought about the fact that Peter started teaching before the Holy Spirit came at Pentecost. Obviously, God is speaking through him, but this kind of pushes back against the idea that Peter was uneducated. This is a pretty good deal, to quote the Psalms and apply it like this. He knew his stuff, it seems. Read more »

jasonc128 added a text contribution They Still Didn't Get ItHere in Acts 1:6, the disciples still think Jesus is going to set up a kingdom on earth. It's not their fault, they were taught this their whole life. And He did say He would one day. I love how patient Jesus is with them about the whole thing. Read more »
