jentaculophile added a text contribution The First 100 Days for New Believers, Day 2The Real Problem Sin has made it so that we cannot effectively communicate with God. The lesson explains it like this: "Sin makes our relationship with God a bit like a man and woman who meet on the streets of Paris--she, an exchange student from Zimbabwe, he an artist from the United States. Neither can speak the other's language. In Paris, they find no one to interpret for them... Unable to reach one another, we are left yearning for contact, wishing for relationship." Well, G… Read more »

jentaculophile added a text contribution The First 100 Days for New Believers, Day 1You're Not in Kansas Anymore Ok, so I recall this lesson being so perfect for me that it made me cry. It was just another way that God was speaking to ME, directly. First of all, while in Kansas, I was nothing but a servant of the enemy. I definitely was not there anymore. And secondly, this lesson uses my favorite movie of all time to explain to me exactly how I was feeling. AMAZING. I highlighted these words: "Your long-held values may already have begun to crumble. Activities you… Read more »

jentaculophile added a text contribution One Minute Bible for Starters, Day 9Did I Do That? Spiritual gifts are awesome. We each have special gifts from God that are designed to help with our ministry. These are not things like being good with numbers, being able to sing, or a knack for computers. True these are gifts from God, but they are not spiritual gifts. Get ready to learn what your special gifts are! Read more »

jentaculophile added a text contribution One Minute Bible for Starters, Day 6Like a Little Child When we come to let Christ live in us, we are born again. God is our Father now, not our fleshly fathers and you must love Him more than your worldly father. Your focus is to please Him, make Him proud of you and find your reason for living in His gentle smile. This is NOT saying that you should forget or forsake your worldly father!!! Just make sure that your priorities are right. Read more »

jentaculophile added a text contribution One Minute Bible for Starters, Day 5One Step at a Time At this point, we are just starting our lives with Christ. jentaculophile added a text contribution One Minute Bible for Starters, Day 4Power in Your Corner Turn it all over to God. He is all-powerful, you are not. Imagine hanging out (as an adult) with a 3 year old. This 3 year old is trying to carry a little book bag, just his size, but it's packed with books and is heavy for the child. Would you mind carrying it for him? NO! To you, it's a negligible weight. As a matter of fact, you could just pick up the entire child and lighten his load to zero. We are like the 3 year old to God except the difference between… Read more »

jentaculophile added a text contribution One Minute Bible for Starters, Day 3Good Cop, Bad Cop Once you accept Jesus as your savior, you are good, but you are still in this body on earth and you can't escape. You must keep faith and refill your new heart as much as possible. The person you used to be is still kind of around and will fight to get your mind and your spirit back. Don't worry, you have the creator of all things on your side. Read more »

jentaculophile added a text contribution One Minute Bible for Starters, Day 2Remember Your Roots This is where we learn about original sin and why we are so bad compared to God. We all have God's law written in our heart. It's like our conscience. When we do something that causes us to feel guilty or sends up a red flag in our heart, this is a sin. Everyone sins. We have this other little voice that justifies sinning. That is Satan. Anyway, this story explains why we all sin and why we all need to be saved in able to speak with God like we're supposed… Read more »

jentaculophile added a text contribution Devotions for Dating Couples, Week Six: Forgiveness, Wednesday, November 19, 2008Ephesians 4:26 This is the opener for today's lesson. I never knew that this "never go to bed mad" kind of saying was from or in the Bible. I don't want to jump the gun and say that this is the first place it showed up, but I'm sure it helped popularize the saying in our culture. I am glad to see that this is a Biblical idea. Something that I can now stand upon as a first truth and something that I can trust as right and righteous. Psalm 79:8-10 I don't get it. H… Read more »

jentaculophile added a text contribution One Minute Bible for Starters, Day 1Why Me? Why Now? How God Draws You to Himself "[God] has been carefully arranging people, situation, and events in your life, waving His arms in front of your face, pleading with you tolook back, to see the cross, to know the love that paid ever last dime on our escalating debt of sins, to experience more freedom and joy and peace and contentment that you ever thought possible." It is certainly true for me that God did this in my life. Specifically, He put Erik in my life, arranged ou… Read more »

jentaculophile added a text contribution Devotions for Dating Couples, Week Eight: Purity, Thursday, December 4, 2008We All Need a Little Help This lesson is all about how we need people (of the same sex) to be accountable to in order to prevent sexual sin. My Monday night group is a great example and I will pray that I find a great group when I get to MD. 2 Samuel 11's story of King David is a great example of how being alone can get you in trouble. Lucky for us, the Lord has put great distances between us, making it easier to keep our promise of chastity. Ecclesiastes is hard to spell. This passage i… Read more »
