jmart3106 added a text contribution PerserverenceWhat I love about this passage of scripture is I can totally relate to Peter. One moment Christ is telling him that he is going to build his church with Peter and the twelve disciples as the foundational rocks, and the next minute Christ is calling him Satan, all in the same chapter. This is the Christian walk in a nut shell, we have victory or revelation in our lives that could of only happened because of God, and then the next moment we fall on our face and our father has to pick us up and scr… Read more »

jmart3106 added a text contribution The great ironyOne thing that really proves to me that the Christian faith is "the way, the truth and the life" is the fact that people are so offended by it. To my friends and family that are unbelievers, it seems to me that even just saying the word Jesus stirs something up in them, and the immediately go on the defensive. Almost as though there is something in there spirit that is scared of that word, and the change that it represents. In this verse Jesus warns us that this will happen. Read more »

jmart3106 added a text contribution God's MercyThis passage gives us insight into the heart of God that is just amazing. Here the Israelites keep asking their spiritual leader for something that they really do not need. Samuel is very reluctant to even ask God this request because he is assuming that God will be upset with this request. God's plan was to be king over Israel himself, but the people did not have the faith for that and were constantly turning to other people or gods for direction. So in a moment of remarkable humility from… Read more »

jmart3106 added a text contribution Defeating the enemyI don't know about you, but often times I find myself asking the question, How do I defeat the Devil? How do I defeat this "roaring lion" that is literally out to devour me? The bible says that daily the Devil sets up a case to God and accuses us of every sin that we commit. How can we have victory in that setting? Well the first weapon we have is the most powerful by far, the blood of the lamb. In Christ, no matter what the accusation of the devil we are protected by that powerfu… Read more »

jmart3106 added a text contribution Before we panic, did seek God for help?Often times when we are faced with a crisis we not only forget to go to God for help, but we also tend to ignore him completely. It is human nature to take things into our own hands and when the emergency arises and often times we go into auto pilot, when what we really need to do is seek God. God says here in this scripture that he is as powerful as he ever was and when the storms of life hit us, he is knocking on our door. We just have to stop for a minute and listen for that knock. jmart3106 added a text contribution Believers are never aloneThis is such a great verse. I have been abandoned in my life by my biological father and sometimes I find it hard to trust even my closest family members because of that betrayal. What God says here though is that even the love of a mother, which is often times much deeper than the love of an earthly father, cannot be compared to how much God loves us. Even if your very own mother forgets you God promises to NEVER, NEVER forget you no matter what. This is a promise given by God and God is incapa… Read more »

jmart3106 added a text contribution God's MercyIt's so easy for me to forget the level of mercy God has to have with me every day. God says that he keeps a "tight rein on his anger" when it comes to dealing with his people. Furthermore, God promises to not give up on us, or “wash his hands of us”, however he does state that he is not afraid to refine us with "fire" in order to purify our lives. When difficult situations arise in our lives one of the things we have to look at is that, is God trying to refine something… Read more »

jmart3106 added a text contribution When "hobbies" go badI would be lying if I told you that I was never like this person that Isaiah is describing, this "lover of emptiness." Constantly I find myself worshiping something that is fun and interesting but in the end utterly empty. This is really the Devil's strategy in a nutshell. He gets us so deep into our "hobbies", that are in themselves not sinful, that eventually we begin to seek life in those things. We cease to look to God for fulfillment and we look to Golf, or video ga… Read more »

jmart3106 added a text contribution Being persistant in prayerThis chapter in Judges gives us incredible insight into how God sometimes responds to prayer. To give a little background….. an Israelite had visited the town of Benjamin with his wife and some "hell raisers" demanded that he come out of the home that he was visiting so that they could "have their way with him." Instead of him they ended up getting a hold of his wife and they raped her to death. So in turn, this Israelite went back to his tribe and assembled an army to avenge… Read more »

jmart3106 added a text contribution God is not afraid of being comparedThis passage is great because it shows that really when you compare the God of Israel, the God who brought us salvation through Christ, to any other God on this earth, or any other Idol there is no comparison. What is really interesting is that God invites us to compare him with what the world has to offer. He has supreme confidence that when we honestly look at what the world has to offer and what he has to offer that we will choose him. Unfortunately because of pride and addiction we often t… Read more »
