macnut added a text contribution Building faith
God saved the life of the prophet, the widow and the boy, but he also did it in a way to build the faith of the women. By trusting God with the food she had left, she built intimacy with Him. Her faith was restored and her body was nourished. God knew she needed food, but also knew that she needed faith in him even more. Read more »

macnut added a text contribution Sleeping well?
Peter slept well because: 1 - Peter knew his friends were praying for him 2 - Peter knew he had done nothing wrong and had a clear conscience - God gives rest to those with a clear conscience. Ask god (Ps 51) 3 - Jesus himself had given peace to Peter. "My peace I give to you. Not as the world gives." phil 4:8 Read more »

We should obey laws when they don't force us to break god's. This seems especially relevant today when "conscience" laws may be repealed by Obama. Will Christians take a stand regardless of the consequences? Read more »

macnut added a text contribution Body-Mind connection
God asks us to present our bodies as a living sacrifice, and then talks about the renewing of our MIND. Maybe it's a chicken and egg thing, but I find I can focus on God when I am serving him with my body, and I can serve him with my body better when I am focused on him. The point, I think, is that God wants BOTH our minds and our body, and our joy is fullest when we are serving him with both. Read more »

macnut added a text contribution Who was listening to Jesus?
Jesus had been telling his disciples for awhile that he was going to suffer and die and then be raised to life. The disciples were not really listening to Jesus, however. They would try to change he subject or argue over who would be greatest in Jesus's new kingdom. If they had listened to Jesus as the women with the perfume bottle did, they would have done what she did. Take him literally and do what she could to honor him. I wonder if she had overheard Jesus telling his disciples that he… Read more »

macnut added a text contribution Alone in Prayer
Jesus had just found out about John's death and wanted to be alone to pray. The crowd would not let him, and he felt compassion for them and worked all day healing and teaching. Late that evening he still found time to be alone in prayer. He desired that and made time for it, even sending his disciples away in a boat so he could be alone. I want to desire time alone with God like Jesus did. Read more »

macnut added a text contribution Telling stories...
Jesus always taught about the kingom of God in parables. He never explained what they meant (except to the disciples), and we are still debating what some meant to this day. Why did he do this? I don't know, but I do find myself thinking about, meditating about the kingdom of God in ways that I wouldn't have otherwise...come to think of it, maybe that's why he did it... Read more »

macnut added a text contribution Tailored Temptation
The Devil is a master at knowing how to tempt us. When he tempted Jesus, he tailored the temptation to Jesus. The temptation was about timing. He was very hungry, and would soon have food. It would have been a sin to command the stones become bread and use his divine powers for that purpose. He came to be a man and know what we go through. How could he do that by making stones into bread in oder to satisfy his hunger? As with most temptations, the sin is the timing rather than the thing itself… Read more »

God's wrath is slow....very slow to be revealed. Why? Because he loves us and wants all to have time to know HIm. Thank you God, for your patience and mercy! Thank you for coming to save the world, rather than condemn it. Help me be of the same mind as you. Read more »

Jesus wants us to be real and authentic in the way we live. If my word is true, why would I need to swear to the truth...was I lying otherwise? Live in the now and be aware of your feelings, not afraid to express your true feelings to God....praying for help or singing praises. Read more »

macnut added a text contribution Why faith and works go together
A good way to determine what I really believe is my actions. Do I believe that a chair is sturdy? Then I will sit on it without hesitation. Do I really believe that daily time with God is vital? If that's what I believe, then my actions would show. When I think about the worship songs I sing on Sunday, would my actions be any different if I really believed the words? Belief is powerful! James is not saying that salvation requires more than faith in Jesus. instead, he is pointing out the t… Read more »

macnut added a text contribution What God takes pleasure in....
When a person turns from his ways and lives. This is right in line with John 3:17, in that Jesus came not to condemn us, but to save us. Ezekiel makes it clear that it our ways that leads to our destruction, and God takes no pleasure in seeing that, because he loves us. Read more »

Many times,, it seems that God's judgement for someone is simply letting them have their own way, and reaping the fruit of their choices. In other words, if we act as if our happiness can be found some way other than obeying God, then he lets us see if that true. The good news is that he's always waiting for us to return to him after we come to our senses... Read more »

macnut added a text contribution Jesus as means to an end
A I read Luke 23, it seemed that everyone wanted Jesus for some other reason than he came for. Pilot to appease the Jews and improve political relations with Herod. Herod wanted Jesus for amusement and entertainment. The mob in front of Pilot wanted Jesus to satisfy their anger. Jesus came to free us from the bondage of sin and reestablish our relationship to him. There was not a single person who could see that. Thank God that He loved us so much! Read more »
