God is eternal, life is short. It's hard to understand the years of life and how short it really is. Moses reverts back to creation (v2). In v3, he talks about the fall of man. v4 is reference is to Methuselah (969 yrs), oldest man ever. The golden age of man, where the lifespan was the longest.
