mayfield13 added a text contribution Supremecy of Christ
I think this verse illustrates very well just how "in control" Jesus really was. Jesus KNEW that He was going to be arrested. Jesus KNEW that Judas was going to betray Him. Jesus KNEW that Judas knew where to find Him. But He went anyway. Jesus says elsewhere: "No one takes my life from me. I lay it down of my own accord." Jesus is God. He is supreme. He is sovereign. mayfield13 added a text contribution Jesus' work on earth
I think this verse is very interesting. Many people seem to think that the only reason Jesus came was to die on the cross for the propitiation/expiation of our sins. But Jesus says here that He has completed the work the Father gave Him to do; and this was BEFORE He was crucified. So what does He mean by that? Well, I think (though I could be wrong) that He is speaking of a couple things involving His personal ministry. Jesus had spent His life telling people about God, especially in the l… Read more »

This is a story about grace. It is about grace being forgotten; something that should never happen, but does all too often. In this parable, the master forgives the servant a huge debt, ten thousand talents. The servant would have had to sell all of his possessions, his children, and his wife to pay back the debt. Imagine that today. A man has to pay back a loan to the bank. To do this, not only does he sell his house, his car, and everything he owns, but also he sells his 8-year-old boy… Read more »

--Chapter 4-- Paul says he is not judged by men, but by God. God will expose the motive's of men's hearts. Paul tells the Corinthians that they are spiritual infants, that they are still worldly. He calls them out because of their quarreling and jealousy. Paul talks about men's role in God's plan. Verse 6 says, "I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God made it grow." Paul tells them how God is the one to follow, not men, because men are just playing their roles. Paul says the foundation for all things should be Christ, and no one should try to lay a new foundation. P… Read more »

God tells Jeremiah that He punished the people because they sinned greatly, burning sacrifices to other gods, and ignoring the prophets that God sent after them. He says that is why Jerusalem was emptied and Judah was uprooted. The Lord said that He would destroy the remnant of Judah that chose to go to Egypt. When Jeremiah told the people these things, they did not approve and said they would not follow the Lord. They said they would continue to burn incense to the Queen of Heaven as they d… Read more »

Elijah went to Ahab and had him send a message out to all the prophets of Baal and of Asherah, telling them to meet him at Mount Carmel. At this time, all the prophets of the Lord were hidden because they were being killed. At the mount, Elijah had the prophets of Baal build an altar and prepare a sacrifice, but not light it. Paul says that his preachings are not from him, nor his persuasive words, but from God. There is wisdom to be taught, but only to the mature believers of the body. Paul speaks of the Spirit revealing the things of God. Paul says he is not taught by men, but by the Spirit. Paul explains the people without the Spirit cannot understand the things of God. 1.
