Ruth wanted to go out and work so she wouldn't be a burden to Naomi. She ended up in the fields of Boaz, but obviously this was directed by God. Boaz took an immediate interest in Ruth, and wanted to keep her safe and watch over her. Just like God our Father has a huge interest in each of us, and He wants to keep us safe and watch over us. Naomi decided to return to Israel and told her daughter-in-laws to return to their own homeland too. Ruth had such a love and acceptance of Naomi that she was willing to give up her hopes of security and children, and go with Naomi. In this the final chapter of Micah, we see gloom at first, then see finally see hope. Micah saw society going down the drain. Government leaders were being dishonest and corrupt. The people of God had gone against Him and had built pagan altars and had sacrificed to false gods. Now God is proclaiming the judgment to come against them. Jesus is very obviously talk about here, Micah telling of the coming of a Savior. This chapter clearly shows that God is a just God. When people go against Him and do what is not pleasing to Him, there are consequences to pay. We are to obey our government leaders and our employers, as long as that does not go against the will of God. We are not to speak bad things about anyone, but be kind to all. We are saved by the grace of God, not of works or our own goodness. One we are saved through faith, then we can let our good works shine so that others will see the love of God. Jonah was actually mad that God had spared Ninevah. Jonah was ready to see Ninevah destroyed because of their evil ways, but when God showed mercy on the people and accepted their request for forgiveness, Jonah was angry. Jonah was given a second chance. This time he didn't blow it. He obeyed the Word of God and went to Nineveh and preached God's word. Jonah preached a message that was not popular, it was bad news. Now that Jonah was undergoing punishment from the Lord, he realized his mistake and repented for it. Jonah was told by the Lord to go do a job, he was to speak out against the sins of the people of Ninevah. Jonah did not want to go and do as the Lord commanded so he fled and tried to run away from God. Unfortunately, Jonah (and ourselves) cannot hide from God.
