megan23 added a text contribution Patiently WaitingThis passage reminded me of lyrics to a song by Brooke Fraser. It's called C.S. Lewis Song: If I find in myself desires nothing in this world can satisfy, I can only conclude that I was not made for here If the flesh that I fight is at best only light and momentary, then of course I'll feel nude when to where I'm destined I'm compared Speak to me in the light of the dawn Mercy comes with the morning I will sigh and with all creation groan as I wait for hope to come for me… Read more »

megan23 added a text contribution Taking it Too Far"Not only do they continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them." My youth group has really expressed this idea of being in the world but not of it. Overall it's a great concept. To show light to others, you need to be around them, but at the same time, you don't want to be doing the bad things they are doing. This verse clearly reminds us that even if we aren't doing such things that deserve death, we should not support and approve of tho… Read more »

megan23 added a text contribution So Much WorseReading about the crucifixion of Jesus is not fun. It hurts a lot to hear what he went through. I have heard the story so many times but it is still incredibly sad. To know that he was tortured when he was innocent. And he did it all for us. It makes me think about my life. As a Christian, I claim to have made a commitment to follow God's way in all aspects of my life. I fall short, everyone does. But how often do we fall short because we are afraid of what others will think, what they will… Read more »

megan23 added a text contribution We won't ever fully understandNow I've never been married but I can imagine it must be great. I look forward to that time in my life so much. At first it makes me a little sad that we won't be married in heaven but then I stop and really think. Heaven must be so much better than we could ever imagine. It is certainly better than here. Even the happiest of people here on earth still wouldn't fully understand just how wonderful Heaven will be. God is pretty nice to give us something so great we can't even c… Read more »

I look at the verse and I love it. But, honestly, at the same time I almost have a hard time believing it. Sure God wants us to be happy but will He really give us all the desires of our heart, even if we do delight ourselves in Him? I don't really know. I fully believe God has a plan for my life and I don't think our desires always align with His will. I would love for my plans to be His plans but I don't think it always happens that way. Or maybe, as this verse suggests, if our… Read more »

megan23 added a text contribution Righteous AngerJesus was prefect right? Even he got angry at times, which to me says anger isn't always a bad thing. He even overturned tables in his anger yet somehow he remained righteous. How awesome would it be if we could learn to be angry in this way. Anger that releases us but doesn't exactly hurt others. megan23 added a text contribution Which one are you?The parable of the seeds is a well known passage. I've read it and heard it a thousand times and every time I read it thinking I am the person planting the seeds. I thought of myself as a believer who could go and spread the word and then once the seed was planted, any of these things could happen. And, sometimes, I am the person who plants a seed. However, recently I read this and thought to myself, "When I first heard the story of Jesus, which seed was I?" Even to this day I see… Read more »

megan23 added a text contribution Isn't It True..It seems to me that, just as Jesus was saying here with these nations, people who have fallen the hardest and have sinned the most find repentance a lot easier than those have seen the miracles first hand. So easily, I go around and point fingers at people in church, people that maybe have a less mature relationship with God, but somehow they seem to understand better. Sometimes I need to sit back and realize that I need more help than they do. If things continue how they are, those people will… Read more »

megan23 added a text contribution Are You Excited?I think its funny how people can get so excited and so happy over concerts, sports games, TV shows, vacations, etc. yet we sometimes struggle to find an excitement in God. Is your time spent with Him like a task or do you enjoy it? Also, when something good happens in our lives how quickly we forget to thank God. We would have nothing without Him. Everything is His victory, not ours. This verse reminds me to get excited and get passionate for God. He deserves it. Read more »

megan23 added a text contribution What a GiftI can see a lot of things going on in these verses but what struck me most is the manner in which Abraham spoke to God. Each time Abraham opened his mouth again, he pleaded with the Lord to let him continue speaking. He showed a fear of God that we should all have. It is not our right to be able to sit and pray to God whenever we please. God created us and he desired our company, yes, but the Lord Almighty can do as he pleases. He doesn't have to listen to us and hear our prayers but he doe… Read more »

megan23 added a text contribution At Least You TriedA couple years ago, a friend and I would go out to coffee at least once a week and talk about our youth group. She used to get so frustrated with the girls and how they were acting. She would say, "but they seem to get it and understand it and then they go out and do all these stupid things going totally against it." As believers, it can be extremely frustrating to watch someone you love go out and mess things up over and over again. Maybe they get it at first, but for some reason just… Read more »

megan23 added a text contribution God's Grace"When I got my act together, he gave me a fresh start." All I can say is that I am so thankful for a God who shows mercy and grace. I've done so many things to hurt Him, so many things that go against His will, so many things that just aren't pleasing. Yet, when I choose to come back to Him, he is waiting for me with open arms. He forgives me and I get a second chance. Even better, because of Jesus, I have unending chances. How a great a fresh start can be. Read more »

megan23 added a text contribution Love For Your HusbandI used to think that Proverbs 31:12 had nothing to do with me yet because it speaks of women who bring good to their husbands. I thought, I'm not married yet so this really isn't relevant. However, someone pointed out to me that the verse says "all the days of her life." This means now too. Although I am not yet married, I need to remember that someday I will have a husband who deserves love and respect from me every single day. This especially means staying pure now, so that… Read more »

megan23 added a text contribution Being an ExampleBeing an example to non-believers is a tough thing. Jesus was a perfect example of how we need to put ourselves around people that do not know God so that we may help them. However, it's not that simple. Too often do we use this verse as an excuse to be places that maybe we shouldn't. There is a fine line between being a light in dark places and just plain being in dark places. It isn't easy to be surrounded by sin and not give into it. We need to be especially careful to balance… Read more »

megan23 added a text contribution Useless Scripture?Sometimes as I read through the Bible I come across certain verses or even whole passage that seem so boring or irrelevant. It's hard to sit there and read these things and find the message within. The Bible was carefully put together and everything in it is there for a reason. This verse reminds me that EVERY part of God's word can be useful for various reasons. My goal is to take the things God has placed in front of me and search it until I find what He wants to show me. megan23 added a text contribution We Must WaitEveryone longs to give themselves completely to someone, to have a deep soul relationship with another; to be loved thoroughly and exclusively. But to the Christian, God says, "No, not until you are satisfied, fulfilled, and content with being loved by me. To have an intense, personal, and unique relationship with me alone, discovering only in me is your satisfaction to be found. Only then will you be capable of the wonderful human relationship that I have planned for you. For you will neve… Read more »

megan23 added a text contribution Our Plans versus God'sThe idea of giving into God's plans and letting him take control of our lives seems like such an easy task. We think we can just sit back and say "God take control!" and wait for Him to steer our lives. I've realized very easily that it's not that simple. In Jeremiah we are reminded that God's plans for our lives are ones that are to prosper and not to hurt us and are supposed to give us a hope and a future. I do believe that with all of my heart. The hard part is g… Read more »

This verse makes a lot of sense but at the same time it's hard to fit it in with all the history of the world I've been taught in school. I hate that I am unable to connect the time periods of the Bible with what I've learned about history in school. Anyone care to enlighten me? Read more »

megan23 added a text contribution God's VoiceThis verse is somewhat simple and could easily be overlooked at the end of the passage but it is so important. Jesus taught with authority and people came from all over to hear him speak. God had a very specific plan for Jesus and he definitely spoke through him. There are a lot of people who could get up in front of a crowd and be "teachers of the law" but it is God's spirit that makes the difference. This very thing is present in our churches and lives today. How often do we l… Read more »

I love that Jesus always taught in parables. To me it sort of says that if you want to learn the lessons God has in store for us, then you must be willing to put in some sort of effort. Sure, Jesus could easily just say do not be a hypocrite, but he chooses to talk about the plank and the speck of sawdust. If you take the time to read and understand this, the lesson is just that much greater. Read more »

megan23 added a text contribution Do I do that? The first question that came to my mind while reading this is Am I fertile, and increasing in number? Do I share what I've learned and what I know with others so that they may see what I do? Probably not. It is so important that it is said twice. We are called to share the good news and to increase God's kingdom. Read more »
