mikesaunders added a link contribution Pauls prayer for those he lovesToday we start a study on the book of Phillipians. This book is full of joy, in fact, joy is mentioned sixteen times in the four chapters. I am excited to get into this study because sometimes we miss out on the joy of being a Christian. Hopefully this book will help us to experience joy. The Life Application Study Bible has a great definition for joy “Joy is the quiet, confident assurance of God’s love and work in our lives - that He will be there no matter what!” Please read Phillipians 1: 1… Read more »

mikesaunders added a link contribution Living beyond reproachAn elders personal, work, spiritual and social life all become windows that people see God through. The work that God does through an elder is either supported or destroyed by the actions of the elder. When a respected elder or pastor gives into a sinful desire and is discovered publicly, the work that God has done through that man’s life is jeopardised and weakened. Not because God is weak but because the window that people see God through (in this case the Elder) has been blurred, dirtied and… Read more »

mikesaunders added a link contribution Daniel shows us how to please GodAre you a decisive Christian? Are you proactive or reactive in your faith? Daniel is a great example of a man who was proactive is his faith. My challenge to you this week is to focus on the first six chapters of Daniel (just one a day!). As you read the book of Daniel you will find the following proactive nature of Daniel. 1) Daniel spent time with God regularly. This gave him a better understanding of who God is and what pleases God. 2) Daniel made decisions that pleased God. He was not con… Read more »

mikesaunders added a link contribution God Glorifies HimselfGod wants to show people how awesome he is by healing this man from his blindness. This kind of miracle had not even been heard of yet. A man, blind form birth, receiving his eyesight. God was showing off, catching the attention of the people of this earth. By glorifying Himself like this God reveals to us part of who He is. The purpose of this mans blindness up until that point was so that God could show us the following things: Read more »

mikesaunders added a text contribution Over Analysing the SituationIf you are anything like me then you have a great desire to understand everything. Desire may not even be a strong enough word, NEED may be a better description. Today we will look at a group of people who have this very same need. We will look at the response of the Pharisees to the miracle that performed in healing the blind man. However Jesus corrects the disciples and their culturally accepted norm, neither this mans sin nor the sin of his parents is the reason for his blindness. The reaso… Read more »

mikesaunders added a link contribution The Effect of the Glory of GodThe blind man in this story goes through a process that begins with the healing of his eyesight and ends with the healing of his heart. Lets look at this process and how God's plan to display His glory affected this man. The Man Meets Jesus: Jesus walks past the man at some point during His ministry on earth and responds to the man by seeing the need in his life and filling the void. Jesus does this exactly the way that God intended in order to display the glory of God in his life. The M… Read more »

mikesaunders added a link contribution A Call to WorshipThe passage speaks in such simple terms the call to worship and gives us a clear description of how we are to worship. God desires us to worship Him, He loves our worship. Today's devotion is not as long as the others you normally get from onthingsabove but I hope that it will be a great blessing to you. Call out with Joy In every aspect of our lives we should be ready to call out with joy to God. This is not easy to follow because we are emotional beings who are not always filled with jo… Read more »

mikesaunders added a link contribution Our Motive is Never Hidden from GodPeople are beautiful creations and are capable of many great things. That’s how God created us! However, like we have seen in the previous verses, without love guiding our thoughts and actions, without love guiding us to obedience, without love moulding our success - we have nothing. mikesaunders added a text contribution We need to complete the relationshipIn all the commentaries I read regarding this verse there was a fundamental focus on the aspect of faith. How we can have faith in God but without love that faith is rendered useless. To me, this makes perfect sense. To have faith in God is to believe in Him and to accept His grace in our lives. To know beyond doubt that there is a God. Without love, the Relationship is one sided, we receive everything but give nothing back. Our love for God is the means that we use to commune with God. He hires a Hot Air Balloon and charts it along the Cape coastline in Summer. He surprises her with tickets to Cape Town for the weekend and they spend the Saturday driving around the garden route and stop for lunch at a quiet wine estate. That afternoon they are driving back th… Read more »

mikesaunders added a link contribution The Most Excellent WayHave you ever wondered about God's plan? Asked yourself where you fit in? How you fit in or even if you fit into God will? This passage of scripture we are looking at today should help you answer that question. Paul, the most well known apostle today, talks about our spiritual gifts in chapter 12. We are told to use our gifts and that we should not desire those gifts that God has not given us, but to rather commit to those things that God has called us to. God gives us gifts in order to gi… Read more »
